I have very simple flash needs bouncing flash off the ceiling to photograph my dogs. I'd used the 580EX when I had my Canon 1DX Mark II but recently bought the Fujifilm X-T2 and did not need the overkill of their top range flash. However I doubted this medium power flash could do the job.
I finally bought this flash because it has ttl cap[abilities, I do recommend get a flash cord so as you can use the light off the camera and and be able to put the light where you want it. LEAVING THE PLASH ON THE CAMERA MIGHT JUST PRODUCE RED RED EYE.
I am not a flash guy! Unless its impractical I always opt for natural light. Last night I had a volunteer gig and felt that I couldnt take too many chances. The ef42 did the job and now Ill put it away until the next time.
Truly an intelligent Flash! Perfect exposures even when I mount my classic Leica Lenses on my X-T1. Remarkable as there is no coupling between the Leica lens and the camera.
Up until Sept 2016 this was the big gun of the Fuji flash line and in many ways for what I mostly do it still is. The EF-42 is small enough that it doesn't make you XT or Pro top-heavy yet puts out plenty of light for direct TTL fill or bouncing off a ceiling, off a card or even using a dome.
Easy to use and understand. Great Flash power. I use the flash only for filling or bouncing.
Works quite well with my Fuji cameras, I just wish the shoe mount were metal instead of plastic, or at least the mount should have had a lock pin instead of the screw down locking clamp that stresses the plastic shoe mount.
I love this product. I use this with my fujifilm X-E1 camera. I primarily use it for off camera flash.
This is (Fujifilm EF-42) a very good flash, small, reliable. It takes 2-4 sec to recharge, but takes my old HS30EXR longer to write files to the card (both raw and JPEG). So problems there. The flash follows camera's focal distance up to 70 mm (lanse goes to 130 mm or so).
Got this flash for my legally blind retired professional photographer father to use when photographing events for a local cancer survivors group. Covers large group photos well. Also does good at lighting candids from a distance.
