Epson's 4K entry in the living room laser UST category comes with a few caveats, but its exceptional brightness and picture quality more than make up for its missings.
-
+
Exceptional image brightness, Good out-of-box color for SDR and HDR, Outstanding 3D, Large, sharp lens with uniform focus, Comes with UST ALR screen
-
-
Requires outboard audio system, Longer throw ratio requires further placement from wall than most 4K USTs, Cumbersome access to key image adjustments, No eye protection mode for the laser
Laser TVs like the Epson LS500 are a relatively new class of displays for the home. In a sense they are the logical replacement for the “big screen” TVs of 20 years ago, except back then “big screen” was 50” or 60” diagonal. Now those are just average TV sizes.

4000 claimed Lumens (brightest recently reviewed), 1800 calibrated lumens in best mode!, Long Life laser light engine (20,000 hours), Laser engines slowly lose brightness over years, not months like lamps.

While it might be the brightest in its class, could be brighter still, for folks with ridiculously bright rooms like mine, measured well below claim (measuring UST projectors is always a challenge), Lacks CFI – for smooth motion, Not critical, but CFI is generally a plus for sports viewing, Lacks...
With its powerful brightness and impressive overall picture, Epson's LS500 offers a compelling alternative to pricey oversize flat-panel TVs.

Bright, living room-friendly image, Packaged with easy to assemble screen, Plentiful picture adjustment options

Limited contrast and color space coverage, High fan noise in Normal Light Output mode, Basic remote control
The EH-LS500 is available in two colour variations (EH-LS500B, EH-LS500W), each priced at £2699/€2999. There’s also a version of the LS500 that features Android TV smarts. In the US the projector is referred to as the EpiqVision Ultra LS500 and comes with a projector screen.

Extremely bright, colourful pictures, Laser light means a long lifespan with minimal picture quality reduction along the way, Convenient 'sideboard' design

Black levels are limited, Colours lose subtlety in dark areas, Can be a touch noisy in bright settings
Having obsessively researched for months, I knew I was after a 3 LCD, laser projector. I did not think I'd opt for a short throw but the 130" screen capability attracted me to this model.
Went with this projector because I wanted 4k, laser light, UST and more than 3000 lumens and this ticked all the boxes at a reasonable price. It is expensive but all those things together make it worth it.
My first 'serious' projector and it hasn't disappointed. The image is very impressive, contrast, motion, black levels etc look superb in my opinion. Slight negative is the fan noise, I wasn't expecting TV quiet and for a movie it is hooked up so to all extents and purposes drowned out but it is on...
Very happy with this short throw projector would recommend it.Would now like to find a suitable AV cabinet to house it.
I purchased this to replace an Epson TW6600 which was a hard act to follow but I wanted the placement convenience an ultra short throw could offer. Initially I was a little underwhelmed but after tinkering with the settings and adjusting the placement I've been blown away.
Picture quality is amazing, even when projecting onto a painted white wall in a well lit room. Fantastic, proves that you get what you pay for.
Pros - Superb picture - much brighter than i expected. Feels like TV and not a projectorCons - Didn't realize how big the projector really is, planning to build a separate cabinet for it. As mentioned in previous comment, fan gets loud in bright mode.
Projector produces a big picture. Still working out the best settings. Fans too loud at times.
Excellent picture quality, great contrast and very sharp. Pretty easy to set up as well. Only negative was the price but you get what you pay for
