The Mavic Air might be DJI’s best drone to date. It’s certainly not perfect, but it checks all the right boxes. It’s super compact and portable, has a dedicated controller, shoots video in 4K, has an advanced obstacle avoidance system, and boasts a range of over 2.5 miles.
-
+
Dedicated joystick controller, Gimbal stabilized 4K camera, Robust obstacle avoidance, Plentiful intelligent flight modes
-
-
Touchy camera controls, unless you’re in Cinematic mode

An amazing amount of tech in a pocketable drone, the DJI Mavic Air is the best travel drone you're going to find right now.
-
+
The DJI Mavic Air's folding design makes it great for travel while its 4K-resolution camera and three-axis gimbal capture nice-looking photos and video. Automated shooting options and obstacle avoidance make it easy to get good results fast.
-
-
Flight time is typically between 15 to 18 minutes, so expect to buy extra batteries. Piloting by app can be frustrating, especially on smaller screens. Obstacle avoidance doesn't cover you from the sides or top.
![]() |
The Mavic Air is DJI's smallest, most portable drone, and is just as full-featured as its larger siblings.
-
+
Very small. High bit-rate 4K UHD video. HDR and Panorama still capture. Raw and JPG support. Asteroid video shot. Good obstacle avoidance. Automated flight modes.
-
-
Doesn't support USB charging. No 4K DCI video. Panorama stitching needs some work. Real-world flight limited to about 18 minutes.

When the Mavic Pro came out, I thought DJI had made the best drone ever. With the Mavic Air, it's once again made a drone that's the envy of all others. The Mavic Air is portable, maneuverable, takes great photos and video, and comes packed with a number of goodies, such as the automatic camera...
-
+
Very easy to fly, Great photos and video, Innovative gesture controls, autonomous flight modes, Object avoidance
-
-
Hard to switch between camera modes in app

DJI's Mavic Air is a testament to the company's innovation. With pretty much no other big player in the game, it could have eased off the gas on features, but the Mavic Air comes packed with sensors, a high quality camera, onboard storage and flies like a dream.
-
+
Incredibly portable, Excellent battery life for size, Solid camera performance
-
-
Shorter range than Mavic Pro, Minor connection quirks

A lot of people have been asking me … why would I want to buy the Mavic Air when I can just buy the Mavic Pro. While others have voice their concerns, and wondered why DJI would want to cannibalize its own consumer drone business, with many different drones (of similar function and features).
-
+
Compact and light-weight, Super easy to control, 4K recording, 3-axis gimbal, Smartcapture (hand gesture), 21 minutes flight time, Same coverage (range and distance) as Mavic Pro

-
Pricey

Our verdict is in, the DJI Mavic Air is a great drone. We've flown this folding quadcopter as much as possible, and we're impressed - check it out in our full DJI Mavic Air review.

A small drone with huge ambitions, the DJI Mavic Pro packs 4K video recording, a three-axis gimbal, an upgraded obstacle avoidance system and onboard storage into a compact and foldable form factor that easily slips into a jacket pocket.
-
+
Incredible portability, 4K video at up to 100Mbps; 12MP HDR stills, Near-perfect obstacle avoidance, 8GB internal storage
-
-
Slightly jerky gimbal controls, Could have better range, Need multiple batteries for a great flying experience
![]() |
While not perfect, the Mavic Air is easily one of the most impressive drones to date. It's portable, powerful and packed with features. What's more, its batteries last far longer than the smaller Spark.
-
+
Portable design means it's easy to carry around, Full of features, Quick Shot modes are a highlight, Battery life is decent for a drone this size
-
-
ActiveTrack tracking didn't work reliably, Video was often oversaturated, Auto exposure slow to play catch-up, App menu system is still quite complex

A tiny folding drone
-
+
Hard to crash, makes pretty video
-
-
Shakes in cold weather (Update: DJI fixed the issue)

Great product. Straight forward setup, even though it does take a little bit of time to get everything going the first time. Very easy to fly and great control response. Image quality is fantastic and camera stabilization is very good. For the money, the best drone on the market in my opinion.

Don’t fly over People and lose sight of itDo fly In wide out spaces

I bought the drone about a month ago and its been great. Just for background I have also owned a Mavic Pro and Phantom 3.Range: Range is still great, not as solid as Mavic Pro but strongh enough to fly in urban melbourneCamera: Camera on this drone is honestly in my opinion great, actually better...

Do practice on cheaper modelsDon’t buy as a beginner

Can suffer signal strength due to interference as it works on enhanced WiFi. The pro uses a different system which makes it more reliable and gives it pretty my double the range but that’s why it costs more.If you’re flying line of sight this is a great drone packed full of stand out features.
