I really like this mount.- The mount allows me to make polar alignment without having views to Polaris(I do not have views to thenorth), If you simply do the alignment with 3 stars, the mount tells you what is the error you have and allows you to perform the polar alignment through the process...
This is the first mount I have owned, and I have to admit that I'm impressed. I am just entering into this great hobby and purchased a 4" refractor for the purpose of learning astrophotography.
I used this for backyard astronomy. So far after 2 months, I find it a very good upgrade from my Celestron Nexstar 4SE. For Deepky, its f/5 - I used it with the Canon DSLR. For Planetary imaging - I used it with a barlow (up to 3x), and a Celestron Skyris 132c camera.
More than happy with it. With some reading and learning, you can get an excellent polar alignment and get at least 5 minutes without autoguiding system. With the proper autoguider, I´m getting at least 10minutes exposures.
I got this because I want to expand into astrophotography and so far I like it a lot. There is a learning curve as with all new equipment but I'm getting there. I'm using a Canon Rebel T1i as my learning camera.
My use is in Astrophotography and although buying this at the wrong time of the year it has worked out great. The mount is very strong for the weight and has been used both in a piggy back configuration with a DSLR (200mm and a 500mm prime lenses) as well as using the Celestron 6in SCT with the DSLR...
I purchased this setup mainly for the mount. The scope is ok but I don't use it to much. The mount in my opinion is awesome. In the past I have spent more than half of my observation time trying to get a decent alignment and now I spend less than 30 min setting up the mount.
This mount replaces an older LXD-750 mount that I used for many years. The VX is well-constructed and carries my C-11 or Televue-85 plus guidescopes and guiders/cameras well. I am very pleased with it as a larger portable mount.
Great mount paired with an 8" OTA. Good for taking astro photos.
5 stars because It was free. Bought with celestron advanced vx mount for same price as the mount alone! Comes woth collimation circle on the primary mirror and was perfectly collimated out of the box.
