As an owner of a GH4 and Canon C100, I believe I have some perspective and I can give this camera an unbiased review. I just took it out for filming on Long Island and it worked great. Picture quality is astonishing. It has the high-dynamic range setting, like my C100, that I enjoy using.
This is one of the best compact camera I have used in the field. First of all I love that its so light and compact, second the quality of is very crisp and sharp at the HD level. For me its really a step up from using a DSLR like the 70D.
This is a spectacularly nice camera for my purposes---making video classes and blogs solo in my home studio. Spectacular image quality, easy to use and set up. The fixed lens is fine for my purposes, with plenty of mechanical zoom, and I love the fact that I can control everything remotely from an...
My main camera is a C300. This complements it perfectly and makes a great second camera. Shooting in 4K makes it easy to compose a variety of shots in the edit, and the ability to match profiles ie excellent.
Thought I could handle the so called low light issues, but to no avail. This camera is decent for outdoor, daytime filming, and with wnough light, you'll get some 'okay' night time/low light shots, however, this works best for studio productions (big or small) and simple run n gun filiming as a B...
First, I primarily shoot with a Canon C300. Often working in remote locations with archaeologists - often handheld - a day with the C300 rigged for audio (shotgun and wireless) can leave me whipped. So, I bought the XC15 and did some testing.
If you're looking for a small pro video camcorder, then this should be it. It has everything one needs to make a pro video. The only con is that it needs a lot of tweaking when shooting in low light. Other than that, this video camera is awesome.
I've got the third one of these on the way. I shoot occasional client jobs lately, but spend more time teaching high-school-age filmmakers. I've been a digital filmmaker since the Canon XL-1 and Final Cut Pro 1.0.
ONLY 1 thing I don't like about this camera is it doesn't give you the option of using the high capacity CFast card for standard HD footage and images, you still need a SD Card for NON 4K footage. Other than that the cam is great and worth every penny the price.
Many of you who read this will already know about how robust, sharp, and beautiful the XC10 image was and is. I'll not remark further on that except to say the XC15 is the same, with more choices, and an all important waveform to facilitate exposure.
