Ultimately, I have to say I'm still waiting for the day when we get a three-chip professional camcorder that is as compact as the XA10. That will be a happy day indeed for those of us who carry video cameras into the backcountry.
The XA10 will be of interest to professionals and purists alike
If you’ve got the cash, and the desire, the Canon XA10 is acamcorder with few flaws. The zoom is impressively versatile and controls easy to access, with only the small viewfinder a significant negative, dwarfed by the likes of the huge storage capacity and XLR inputs.
Canon’s XA10 is the smallest and lightest professional grade video camera in their lineup. It’s is a ‘prosumer’ model that serves as a great entry point into shooting higher end video than those consumer grade camcorders generally allow.
I received this camera as a Christmas gift, and I am more than impressed. I have spent years filming and editing videos as a hobby, and until now I have been stuck using cheap handhelds and GoPro cameras.
I use this camcorder for weddings and love it!! Quality is great! I use a Rode XLR mic with it. Battery life is great. I got a couple of the long life batteries to go with it, because I usually have 10 hour days when filming. I also have the 30, but prefer the 10.
I replaced two GL-2s with two of the XA-10 So far I have found them very capable cameras. I wish it had the 20x of the GL-2 -- but am learning to live with it. Love the built in microphone interface. That did away with an extra interface box.
The best Camara I have.
