I bought this unit to replace a 3 year old Canon Vixia HF M52. I spent a few weeks trying to squeeze quality video images out of it, but it's best wasn't even close to my old M52. Be aware that it also does not give the option of shooting AVCHD material.
Very easy to use out of the box. Worth the extra $50 to get all of the features. You can record automatically in MP4 and full HD at the same time. This way you can upload to Internet quickly for sharing and still have great HD for yourself. I got an extra battery, but not necessary.
Dual recording formats. Wifi, great battery life, super deep zoom, lightweight and 32gb built in memory!
Stays in sleep mode if you forget to power down
Having a Camcorder again after a few years of going SmartPhone only for all my video recording was really an eye opener, and made me realize that while my iPhone can do a lot of things, if you're going to record video a Camcorder is really the best option.
I bought the VIXIA HF R82 two weeks ago and love its video quality and ease of use. I am totally disappointed by the reflection off the touch screen when trying to video my grandchildrens' soccer games in moderate to bright sunlight.
Wifi part stops working and requires hard reset of phone. That means I had to keep resetting the clock and all my custom settings every time it happened. Then with the wifi part on the HDMI output is shut down, as well as ALL access at the camera. This must have a weak processor or something.
Daughter loves it for Vlogging, YouTubing or whatever they call it.
Nice camera with good zoom and ease of operation. My issue is that I would like to use it for filming skiers at a distance but the stability is lacking, also the focus is not as quick as I need. Not sure if it fits my use.
The Camera itself is very good. You will make yourself CRAZY trying to transfer your images, though, if you have a PC/Windows laptop. (Apple users can download a Pixela movie uploader app which makes life easier.
So far I really like this camera, although there is a lot of glare on the screen which makes it difficult in bright sunlight to see the subject you’re taping. Also one must manually open and close the lens cover. Opening it isn’t hard to remember because the camera tells you to on the screen.
Good camera for the value, the only disappointments where that using some functions disabled other functions that would be great to use together. Other slightly annoying feature is that you have disable the a/v output each time you want to use that jack as an ear phone jack.
