With shift and tilt capability, the Canon TS-E 90mm f/2.8 is a special-use lens, but one that is incredibly sharp and able to capture some unique images.
Extremely sharp. Tilt and shift capability. Lockable adjustments.
Manual focus only.
Canon have an impressive range of tilt and shift lenses for their full frame cameras, offering focal lengths of 17mm, 24mm , 45mm , 50mm and 135mm . Joining the line up is this new Canon TS-E 90mm f/2.8L Macro lens, focusing continuously down to a 1:2 magnification, a very useful half life size.
The Canon TS-E 90mm f/2.8 L Macro Lens sits in the middle of the focal lengths of the new macro tilt shifts offered by Canon. While the 50mm can be described as a good “all round” type lens, the 90mm is an ideal focal length for quite a few different subjects, but especially product and portrait...
The Canon TS-E 90mm f/2.8 is an interesting lens for those seeking the maximum of perspective and depth-of-field control - at a price of around ~1250 US$/€. Technically the lens is about as good as it gets including excellent resolution, absent CAs and zero distortions.
If you have never used a tilt and shif you should rent one. This 90mm model is the most useable (in my opinion) For landscapes with fore/middle/back you can really get max DOF For pans vertical or horizontal you can just adjust the lens a full 30 in either direction, no need to mess with special...
Very good for landscape, interiors, macro, and panoramics
Heavy, Manual Focus, takes awhile to get used to
The TS-E 90mm is Canon's first tilt-shift lens for 35mm cameras and has been around for almost 24 years now. Mine is tack sharp from the center to all four corners. I also could not notice any softness when the lens is shifted towards the maximum. I use this lens 90% for landscape and seascape work.
For tabletop product shooting and near macro work the TS-E 90 cannot be beat. The image crispness and detail is awesome. I often crop images in post processing and have never had trouble loosing detail in images from this lens. There are alot of digital tricks you can play with software.
The lens is super sharp and easy to learn to use.
despite of ordinary glas material (no L-series) this lens has exceptional sharpness - but the best thing about it is the unsharpness! things out of focus get blured in a special way, not seen by any other lens - even if you stop down to f11!
this lens has no competitor
rotating front element, tiny shift & tilt knobs
Cannot beat the scope of the lens - and retains quality even at the corners
I'm advertising professional photographer since 1980 and large and medium format is what I used in this time since I have my second Canon, (my first was a Canon F1 in 1978, after that I switch to Nikon for a while) the new 5D, just after his launch into the market, I saw the TS90 in Canon's website...
I shoot a lot of food and I have been using my 90 tilt shift lens for years so when I recently dropped my last one it was a no brainer to order up a new one while I was sitting on location just moments after I did this. It has and always will be my GO TO LENS for food shoots. Cheers, Mark
I have only used this lens a short time so far but it brings back some of the control I had with my LF view camera. It appears very sharp and the controls are easy to use. The ability to rotate both the tilt and shift throughout a 90 degree range gives relatively precise control.
I actually borrowed this lens from Canon a year ago for testing and just happened to have a small assignment shooting a large antique tractor truck for a calendar while I had the lens. I was absolutely blown away by the image quality then and knew that I would have to own this lens at some point.
Superior build quality, Super-sharp images, easy to use, useful for macro photography, light weight & relatively small
no revolving tilt-shift orientation
