I'm using this on the RP body. Reviews are so mixed on this lens that I really didn't know what to expect. Some lenses do not test well on technical reviews but work wonderfully in real world use. This is one of those lenses. My first image blew me away. I'm very happy. It feels good in hand and appears to be well made. It's just a great low element count lens that produces beautiful true to life images. Don't judge it by its price. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is due to its widely known f/1.8 shortcomings. I don't shoot at f/1.8 so I don't care. Highly recommended!

Good, inexpensive 50
This is a very good lens for the price. It's reasonably sharp, but not necessarily tack sharp wide open, but stop down a little bit it performs very well in the center and edges.
It's a very good, inexpensive all around lens. It does not have stabilization, so on a non stabilized body like my RP, you'll have to shoot at faster speeds ( and correspondingly higher ISOs) than you may prefer.
It's inexpensive enough that it makes a great fast complementary lens to the 24-105f7.1, and takes up minimal space in a camera bag.
As an advanced amateur, I'd recommend this to anyone short of people who make their living with their gear.

Huge Step UP
Very much a step up from the standard kit lens. I paired this lens with the EOS RP and got very professional results. A well rounded lens that can be used in a wide array of situations. Automotive photography and portrait photography have become so easy! Sharpness is there and focus is just right for my applications. low light performance is nothing short of excellent. Keep in mind that you will have to update you firmware to use this lens to its fullest potential.

Wow what an amazing little lens
I bought this lens last week for me canon EOS R and I must say after watching many talking head videos i was starting to regret the purchase before it arrived. Now that I have it and have had the chance to use it all I can say is wow. It is an incredibly small lens on the R and is very discrete. The image quality is sharp and amazing for both portraits and landscape. I think this is a must have lens its small and sharp. I do not at all regret this purchase. I only wish hat it came with a lens hood.

A good lens. Just know its limitations.
I bought this lens a few months ago refurbished during a big flash sale. After all, every photographer needs at least one standard focal length lens for whatever format size they're shooting on. The lens looked brand new when it arrived. The lens has a metal base, but is plastic for everything else. The lens does a great job of controlling unwanted flares and ghosting. Images are sharp enough when stopped down once or twice, but can be a little bit soft wide open, which is typical. I was able to get some amazing photos after dark on a recent trip to Vegas, but without IS or IBIS, I was definitely pushing this lens to its limits when handholding the camera. The control ring and manual focus requires diving into the menu after moving the switch on the side of the lens, and no lens hood is included. Despite these things, it's still a good lens to add to your camera bag if you can get one for the right price.

Not Much Improved but Everyone Should Have a Nifty Fifty
It's a fine lens. Every Canon shooter should have a Nifty Fifty in their bag.
They're very packable, and provide acceptable image quality for a variety of scenarios. The 50mm focal length, the no matter which lens, is a good all-arounder.
The new RF version seems a bit more solidly built than the most recent EF iteration. It doesn't do anything exceptionally well, but it's "fine" for general shooting, and the price point is very affordable. If you already have the latest EF 50 1.8 STM, the only major driver to update to this lens is to eliminate the adapter.

Nice and compact and fun to use
After purchasing the new to me Canon EOS RP with the RF 24-105 this was the next lens I decided to get after reading the positive reviews and knowing that a 50mm is a lens that has always been part of my equipment in the past. I can only say it has turned out to be a sound decision and the lens is going to get a lot of use.
