The Canon SX700 HS is a superb all-round camera, suitable for travel, sports, indoor and outdoor social photography and pretty much anything else in between.

  • +

Features; Performance; Image quality; value for money

  • -

    Slightly fiddly Wi-Fi setup

The Canon PowerShot SX700 HS is Canon's flagship compact super-zoom, going head to head in a competitive market with models from Panasonic and Sony - the Lumix TZ60 / ZS40 and Cyber-shot HX50V / HX60V.

  • +

30x optical zoom., Excellent stabilisation., Built-in Wifi with NFC., Manual focus with peaking., 1080p/60 HD video.

  • -

Poor Battery life., Limit remote shooting features., No HD High speed movie mode., Inaccurate zoom magnification scale.

The Canon PowerShot SX700 HS has a 30x lens and a lot of features, but image quality suffers in low light.

  • +

Sharp lens. Controls noise through ISO 800. 2.5fps image capture. Creative Shot function. 30x zoom range. Sharp rear LCD. Wi-Fi. 1080p60 video.

  • -

Pricey. Detail suffers at very high ISOs. Limited control when using Creative Shot.

We have been worried about Canon’s compact cameras, wondering if the company even cares about the category anymore. The PowerShot ELPH 340 HS we recently reviewed left much to be desired.

The summer is a good season for traveling abroad, and what better way to capture that once in a lifetime experience than to capture memorable pictures. While most of us tend to just rely on our smartphones these days, having a dedicated camera still has plenty of advantages.

  • +

30x Zoom, Built-in Wi-Fi, Plenty of shooting options, Good image noise control

  • -

NFC functions are limited, Can’t be charged via USB

Compact cameras are having a tough time these days with a slew of digital SLRs, mirrorless shooters and even smartphone cameras hogging the limelight.

Canon's new travel zoom puts a (surprisingly useful) 30x optical zoom in your pocket.

It's a very good feeling when, after buying something, you can't imagine a time when you'll need to upgrade. That's exactly the feeling I have after getting comfortable with this camera. The optics are great..

I love love my new camera, the Canon Powershot SX 700"I love the way you can zoom in to almost anything and your pictures come out nice and clear, sharp looking pictures it takes. It's perfect size camera,a little heavy but I'm very happy with it!

    None so far...

Took the camera to both Alaska and Niagara Falls this summer and got excellent pictures. The zoom capability still allowed for clear shots if one can hold camera steady enough when snapping the picture. Fits into a jacket or pants pocket for easy carrying.

20 June 2014

This is a great compact camera. I have owned other Canon Powershots and this one has the optical zoom that I was hoping for. I am an avid scrapbooker who loves to take photos and the combination of 16 megapixel and 30x optical zoom is great for capturing those long distance shots.

  • +

Easy To Use, Fast/accurate auto-focus, Good Image Quality, Good Image Stabilization, Good in Low Light, Great Zoom, Large Clear LCD, Nice Body Color, Short Lag Time, Small / Compact

Great camera. Excellent pictures for the size and price. Easy to carry with you, 30X zoom is wonderful. Easy to do video. Flash is not the greatest but it does the job.

I picked up on an SX700 HS to take on vacation recently, in addition to my EOS and my SAMSUNG 21x. I found that this and the SAMSUNG were extremely practical, and next time I will leave the EOS at home. This SX700 took some amazing pictures, but I do have one VERY NEGATIVE comment about it....

Camera delivered one day before vacation. Took it out of the box, charged battery up and started using it. Good battery life, lasted 10 days on one charge while taking pics and videos. Good ease of use, picture quality is excellent.

  • -

    Wi-Fi setup is somewhat complicated.
