The G1 X Mark III is an impressively compact camera with a large APS-C sensor and a zoom lens with a versatile focal range. It has tons of direct controls and can produce great image quality, but is expensive and the permanently attached lens has a slow aperture range and hampers an otherwise...

The Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III is the smallest zooming APS-C camera we've seen, but it feels like a step back from the Mark II.

  • +

Big, APS-C image sensor. Compact body. Dual Pixel AF. EVF. Vari-angle touch LCD. Dust and moisture resistant.

  • -

Expensive. Short, narrow aperture zoom lens. Disappointing battery life. Eye sensor active with LCD away from body. Video limited to 1080p.

Despite the minor nitpicking above, the Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III is a really good option for serious photographers who want big camera results in a surprisingly small package.

For an advanced bridge camera, the PowerShot G1 X Mark III has a gentle learning curve but provides plenty of power for expanding your skills and creativity. It's also extremely compact, which is important when you're traveling.

  • +

Compact and lightweight, Very good for travel, Offers many scene modes, Excellent in low light and challenging lighting, Responsive swiveling touch screen

  • -

Lacks 4K video recording, Only 3x optical zoom, Slightly less versatile than other high-end bridge cameras, Very pricey for its class

Smartphones have captured the camera market a lot, yet for enthusiasts, only a camera can do the job. Canon recently announced PowerShot G1 XMark III, it is a high-end compact camera with a 24MP APS-C sized sensor, Dual Pixel autofocus, and a 24-72mm equivalent F2.8-5.6 zoom lens.

Canon’s G1 X Mark III is a fun little camera that offers features typically found in Canon’s DSLR and mirrorless camera lineup, in a highly compact body. It does cost a premium, and at this price (or lower), you can find mirrorless cameras that offer 4K video recording and have better stabilisation,...

  • +

Weather-resistant body, Compact and lightweight, Dual Pixel AF works well, Good dynamic range, Fully articulating touchscreen

High price, Weak battery life, Macros are a bit soft, Intrusive noise reduction at high ISOs, No 4K video or microphone input

The Canon G1X Mark III is a unique camera, squeezing a large APSC sensor - the same found in the EOS 80D and EOS M5 models - into a relatively compact weatherproof body with a 3x optical zoom, built-in viewfinder, fully-articulated touchscreen, plenty of manual control and excellent wireless...

Canon has put a lot of technology into the PowerShot G1X Mark III, probably to make it competitive in the last sector of the fixed-lens compact camera that is still showing any kind of growth.

I'm tired of lugging around heavy DSLR gear, but I don't want to sacrifice image quality. This little camera fits the bill nicely. Shots are sharp; dynamic range is excellent (I shoot in RAW). There are plenty of features that allow you to selectively meter, adjust exposure,, etc.

  • +

Small, good image quality, sharp lens, zippy focus, touchscreen focus, avoidable menus, DSLR-like features and flexibility.

  • -

Would love a faster lens (2.0 or better) for even better low-light performance. Zoom is adequate, but more would be better, so long as it didn't compromise the small size.

First, to set the bar, I'm a Canon guy for the last 45 years so my review isn't considering competitor products. I travel extensively and have been hauling my 5D (Mkii and then Mkiii), typically with 2-3+ lenses, and am accustomed to near flawless results.

Pros: - good grip, reasonable button placement, lightweight, swivel screen - Image quality on par with canon 800d, nice colour reproduction - Good image stabilisation - Autofocus is quick and works in low light, approximate the speed of efs-35mm macro - On-camera flash is handy - Panorama mode needs...

I bought this as a compact travel. Currently own a direct competitor with same size sensor in a 23mm non zoom body. Let me say, there is NO comparison in the 23mm of the competitor and this Canon... the Canon's lens is not good. Sorry... come out with a faster lens, perhaps single FOV....

I've had the camera for about a month now and feel ready to review it. First, and perhaps most important, this is a review of how well this camera meets my photographic goals. That's the only meaningful basis on which to compare cameras, in my experience.

Bought this camera about a month ago. Goal was to have something smaller and lighter than six pounds of DSLR camera to take on long distance travel trips. But I still wanted DSLR'like capability. This camera fits the bill perfectly.

Good dynamic range. Good menus and controls but why did canon pair this with a soft lens? It’s complete mush. Returned.
