“The Rebel SL3 is a fine DSLR camera but doesn’t stand out next to Canon’s new mirrorless options.”

  • +

Compact, lightweight, Friendly user interface and touch controls, Good image quality, Great battery life

  • -

9-point viewfinder autofocus, 4K video has limitations, Many features are live view only

The Canon EOS Rebel SL3 is one the smallest SLRs available, but its autofocus system struggles with fast-moving subjects.

  • +

4K video shows heavy crop and choppy focus., Autofocus struggles with action., Not as capable as mirrorless alternatives.

  • -

Compact., Vari-angle touch LCD., 1080p video with good autofocus., External mic support., Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

The Canon EOS 250D / Rebel SL3 continues the premise of its predecessors: a compact and affordable DSLR aimed at first-time buyers that’s step-up over the cheapest models while delivering what should be the best of both Worlds: a traditional DSLR optical viewfinder and a thoroughly modern live view...

There are two cheaper DSLRs in the Canon range than this one – the EOS Rebel T100 / 4000D and the EOS Rebel SL7 / EOS 2000D – but we reckon this EOS SL3 / 250D is a better buy than both of them.

  • +

Very light and compact for a DSLR, Great Live View autofocus response, Vari-angle touchscreen, Simple but effective controls

  • -

Only 9 AF points in viewfinder shooting, Thicker body than mirrorless rivals, Four-way pad quite small

We are photographing in a great time. We have a huge number of great camera choices available to us and selecting one is not usually an easy decision. This one is perhaps easier to differentiate than most.

Despite its diminutive size and entry-level price tag, the Canon EOS Rebel SL3 is a surprisingly robust, well-built, and well-thought-out DSLR, not just for still images but for video as well.

Gstyle magazine.34755905

When the Canon EOS Rebel SL3 was announced, it came as a bit of an unexpected release. Afterall, just a few weeks back, Canon was riding high on the initial reviews of its first full-frame mirrorless camera, the EOS R.

Ideal for beginners looking to learn, vloggers wanting decent Full HD capture (including to camera with a 3.5mm mic), or progressing photographers looking to learn more. Picture quality is great, the price is accessible and this entry-level model shows why Canon is so strong in this suit.

  • +

Vari-angle touchscreen allows forward-facing view, Suits beginners and advanced shooters, Live view focus-tracking performs really well, In-camera effects and scene modes actually useful, Strong battery life

  • -

4K video requires cropping and suffers rolling shutter, AF points limited with viewfinder, Bulkier than mirrorless options

I bought the Canon EOS 250D for a photography night school course, I have found this camera lens kit very easy to use; with a touch screen which either gives a simple guided set up or more advanced settings if you want to take it off fully automatic.
