The Canon EOS 80D offers some significant upgrades over its predecessor, and is a strong performer in the midrange SLR space.
45-point autofocus system. 7fps capture with focus tracking. Vari-angle touch-screen display. Pentaprism viewfinder. Smooth video autofocus. 1/8,000-sec shutter and 1/250-sec flash sync. Wi-Fi with NFC.
No 4K video support. Single SD card slot. Omits PC sync connection.
For me the most exciting part remains Dual Pixel CMOS AF. This technology, which allows 80% of the sensor area to double-up for phase-detect autofocus, then cunningly switch back to image or video capture, still feels revolutionary.
Good quality 24 Megapixel stills and 1080p movies., Large viewfinder with 100% coverage and on-demand grid lines., Broad and dense 45-point viewfinder AF system., Superb continuous AF during Live View and movies., Fully-articulated touchscreen.
No 4k video or 1080p above 60p for slow motion., Still photos a little less crisp than those from the D7200., Doesn't have twin memory card slots., No GPS / location logging on smartphone app., No focus peaking.
The Canon 80D centers around ease of use. It offers the best dynamic range of any APS-C Canon camera to date and features dual pixel AF, allowing for continuous focus during both video and still capture. The articulating touchscreen is especially handy in live view mode.
The 80D is a proper upgrade to the 70D, and retains the Editors’ Choice. It may not look different, but there are significant improvements under the hood, namely the autofocusing, superior stills, and Full HD videos that are top-notch.
The 80D isn’t as revolutionary as the 70D was when it was released. Nevertheless, it’s better than its predecessor in a number of areas, including the accuracy of focusing both in and out of live view.
With better performance and photo quality than the 70D, the Canon EOS 80D is worth the upgrade, but it's got a lot of competition for the money.
The Canon EOS 80D is fast, and if you play with the settings can produce excellent photo and video quality.
The automatic white balance isn't very good, and it doesn't have a terribly broad set of features.
The Canon EOS 80D has a list price of $1,199. For more information, visit usa.canon.com .
I would not be completely forthright to omit a last piece of advice to those considering the addition of an 80D to their kits. While "80D" appears a fine name in print, quickly saying the name to someone who is unfamiliar with the model name will likely come across as "A.D.D.
When I first handled the Canon EOS 80D, I thought I was holding a 70D. Sure, there are some changes to the button design, but for the large part, the camera remains largely untouched. This includes the button placements.
What's there to say about the Canon 80D? The camera is an excellent, well-built DSLR that produces reasonably sharp, detailed photographs and high quality Full HD video. It's comfortable to hold with classic Canon DSLR styling, ergonomics and controls, and its versatile AF system is great --...
This is my second canon, eos camera I have brought from qvc. This camera is fantastic. The pictures that it takes is professinal level. I use my new 80D for family and i an a wild life advid. This camera is better than I anticipated. I love the easy pay.
Canon's xxD line has always impressed me for its features, clean lines and reliability. I have been an owner of a 20D for many years so the 80D is an upgrade for me. I put a 32 GB card in it with the fastest access time I could afford. The speed at which the 80D takes pictures is incredible.
Construction, weight, feel, compatibility with my older Canon lenses, image quality with IS lenses is excellent.
A very happy camper I am! I upgraded to the 80d from a 60d and am very satisfied with the new 80d. The additional functionality the 80 brings is amazing compared to the 60, and by the way I was very satisfied with the 60. The 45 focus points and the 7fps is what made the decision easy.
I got the Canon Eos 80D last week, and it is "A Huge Upgrade". My first DSLR was a Canon Eos Rebel T3i and the frame shots couldn't keep up with the sporting events that I was photographing. This is upgrade that will last me the next eight years, and probably more.
