After around a year of using this lens I must say it is one of my favorites. Though it is a larger and heavier lens to hold, having the one stop faster aperture than the f/4 variants is completely worth it.

Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM is one of the better telephoto zooms in Canon's modern lineup. I would even say that this is one of the better telephoto zooms available in the EF mount.

Being priced at around £980, this older 70-200mm lens may lack stabilisation but does include weather sealing and fast, silent ultrasonic focusing at a much lower price, making it an interesting alternative for those on a tighter budget.

Good value, Excellent Build Quality, Very good sharpness in the centre of the frame, Fast focusing

Loss of sharpness towards the edges of the frame, Falloff of illumination towards the corners at 200mm

The Canon 70-200mm Æ’/2.8L USM performed very well in our tests, perhaps not as sharp as we'd like at 200mm and Æ’/2.8, but quite impressive at 70mm. CA tolerance is very good, distortion is low, and corner shading is very low. Build quality is very high, and autofocus performance is excellent.

The Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM Lens is a middle child in the very popular Canon L Series 70-200mm family. The 70-200mm L lens family shows many genetic similarities aside from their obvious focal length range similarity.

Gary Wolstenholme reviews the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM lens. Although lacking stabilisation, is it an ideal alternative for those on a tighter budget?

The Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 USM L may be one of the oldest lenses in the Canon lineup by now but it is still an impressive one. The produced images are very sharp at all focal length across the relevant aperture range. The high resolution is also supported by low lateral CAs.

One of the most interesting questions this test was supposed to answer was whether or not the model without stabilization is somehow optically different from its stabilized twin.

excellent image quality in the frame centre and at the edge,, chromatic aberration well-controlled,, negligible coma and distortion,, slight vignetting on the APS-C sensor,, low astigmatism,, quick, silent and accurate autofocus,, very solid casing,, high build quality,, rich accessory kit.

weak work against bright light,, high vignetting on full frame.
I have been a full time professional commercial/fashion photographer for the last 15 years and purchased this lens maybe eight years ago when I first purchased 2 canon 5d mk II cameras. Since then I have done nearly 7500 jobs and have made more money with this very lens then you can imagine.
STUNNING....simply Stunning on a crop (7D) or a FF (5D3). Have used for three years now for sports, events and some portrait work. The go to lens on most occasions has been this beauty. Just today I sold my 300 F4 that was bought at the same time for "sharp " extra reach but it hardly saw action.

None... OK ! If really picky the weight but what do you expect
According to Canon Professional Services. This lens is at the end of it's life and they will not have the parts to fix it. You buy it, you break it, say goodbye to it.Disappointing that they are still selling it. I LOVE this lens. GREAT lens and workhorse for me for many years.
awesome lens. Great for portraits and landscape. The glass is far superior to Tamron's. Worth the extra money

On a full frame this makes a great portrait lens as well as a sports/nature/BIF lens, as 70mm I find to be the most useful in the studio. Keep in mind it is not an IS so keep it on a tripod below 1/500. Also, the IS version is weather sealed but this one is not...

Clarity, bokeh, fast lens, L glass, very little barrel distortion or chromatic aberration.

NOT weather sealed.
I haven't had a chance to use it much yet, but I have used it in arenas.Does it ever do a great job. really looking forward to using it more when summer arrives.

Old lens design, still great performance. AF is fast and accurate. Sharp wide open, no problem using f/2.8 even in the harshest of lighting. Wish i had the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II but i'm very happy with this lens at half the price of the updated version.

It is a big upgrade than the non L lens. The images are sharp and clear. Since I use tripod so I do not notice the difference between this one and the IS unit. Will buy a 1.4X converter to try.
This is definatly the best lens for the money! This lens produces amazing, crisp pictures. I the quality is unserpassed, but then again that is what you get when you go with the "L" series.
