I've been shooting the Series I version of this lens for over five-years and was looking forward to the improved IS and much reduced weight. Those are huge pluses, but the image quality unexpectedly blew me away.
Consistent Output, Durable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Incomparable Image Qualit, Lightweight
I don't think there is a lens out there to replace this, already won an Audubon award and truly know its because of this lens...it GETS YOU THERE!! The "definition and crispness" is beyond anything I have worked with.
Bought this for birding and absolutely love it. I generally use this with the 1.4 extender and it is tack sharp with very fast focus. Definately a lens worth considering if you are doing bird or nature photography.
Just an awesome lens; a true beast - but lighter than its predecessor. Possibly the only issue at this spectacular price is whether the 200-400 (with teleconverter built in to allow 560mm at 5.6) is a better purchase. The 200-400 is easier to hand hold and allows focal distance flexibility.
