The Canon EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM is an inexpensive zoom lens for full-frame Canon cameras. It's quite sharp, but requires some distortion correction to get the best results.
Quite sharp. Light and compact. STM focus motor. Optical stabilization system. Full-frame coverage. Attractive price point.
Distortion throughout zoom range. Narrow maximum aperture. Lens hood not included.
The Canon EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens makes sense to have in Canon's lineup today, but I think that this is a lens that was introduced before its primary purpose. I think that we are going to see the 24-105 STM's role significantly increased when it shows up as a kit lens included with a DSLR...
Specification This standard zoom lens covers a popular range from wide angle to short telephoto and includes image stabilisation and Canon's STM stepping motor to power autofocus. It costs around £405, which seems quite reasonable. In this review, we'll take a look at how it performs.
It's a good lens for the money, and for the general consumer who's interested in taking photos and movies outdoors it will serve admirably -- fast autofocus, versatile zoom range and image stabilization.
The EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM is a good choice if you want a versatile kit lens for the EOS 6D (or a similar) body. Suitable for portraiture and landscape photography and handy when you want to travel light with a single, all-purpose lens, it covers a useful zoom range that isn't too ambitious.
If 22 August 2005 could be removed from the calendar everything would be so easy. I could write in the summary that the Canon universal lenses line-up, concerning devices which focal length starts from 24 mm, is very sensibly fitted.
good image quality in the frame centre,, decent image quality on the edge of the APS-C sensor,, good correction of the lateral chromatic aberration,, lack of serious coma problems,, moderate astigmatism,, slight vignetting on the smaller sensor,, silent, quick and accurate autofocus.
huge vignetting level at 24 mm on full frame,, significant distortion, additionally of the moustache variety, at the wide angle of view,, some problems with spherical aberration,, weak image quality on the edge of full frame.
Anyone tempted by a switch to full-frame will be delighted by this impressive budget offering, which is significantly cheaper than both Canon’s 24-105mm f/4L IS USM or Sigma’s 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM.
The Canon EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 STM IS has a couple of the "right ingredients" for being a potentially good performer - it doesn't really have an ambitious zoom range, the max.
With this lens, Canon has produced a reasonably priced, lens that does most of what will be asked of it really well. Sharpness in the centre of the frame is excellent throughout the zoom range, it is only towards the edges of the frame at 24mm that this lens fall behind when compared to other, more...
Excellent sharpness in the centre of the frame, Lightweight, Fast focusing, Effective stabiliser, Reasonably priced
Fairly high CA levels, Doesn't perform as well towards the edges of the frame, especially at 24mm
Shooting with a full-frame DSLR is a costly business, and this goes beyond the price of the body alone. If you shoot with an APS-C camera but are tempted by the relatively low cost of, for example, Canon’s EOS 6D or the Nikon D610, don’t fall into the trap of thinking that your expenditure stops...
I bought this because I wanted a lens in this range and couldn't afford the L lens. I've been thrilled with it. Focus is quick and accurate. Images are sharp and crisp. It's now got about 10,000 shots on it and it's still as responsive and crisp as it was the first day.
Great image quality, fast focus, reasonable price.
Some CA above about 90mm but it's minor enough that you have to go looking for it, as a rule. I've only noticed it on an item that had black and white checks, and one side of the black checks had small purple fringing. I didn't notice it until I was looking at the image full size on my computer.
just got this lens a week agohavnt got too put it thru its paces yet but STM lens are sharp and fast at still and video focus, also they can be used for sports dont let lenses with F2.8 or faster fool u into spending hella $$$ on those lens STM is the future wait till the 5D4 gets stm and it will...
