The Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS is is a versatile zoom lens and could well be your first kit lens upgrade
The EF-S 18-200mm F3.5-5.6 IS is a lens which many Canon users have been waiting for with great anticipation, as an ideal 'all-in-one' lens for travel and 'walkaround' use. In the flesh it behaves much as we'd expect from such an ambitious design, as an 11x zoom range will always necessitate some...

Huge 11x focal length range, ideal general purpose and travel lens, Excellent image stabilization system, consistently delivering three to four stops benefit, Good central sharpness at all focal lengths (but inconsistent corners), Attractive rendition of out-of-focus regions of the image, Improved...

Poor sharpness across much of the frame at 18mm and wider apertures, Pronounced barrel distortion at wideangle, and pincushion distortion around 50mm, High levels of chromatic aberration at either end of the zoom range
A 29-320mm equivalent on APS-C Canon EOS models, this lens ($700, street) boasts the broadest zoom range of any interchangeable optic from Canon to date: 11X. A high-end kit option for EOS 50D owners, it probably owes its existence to the phenomenal success of Nikon's 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 VR Nikkor.
The Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens features an awesome focal length range (one that completely covers the needs of many photographers) and an excellently-performing IS system in a nicely-sized body.
A popular all-in-one lens covering a massive 11x zoom range that costs around £410 and includes a silent ultrasonic focusing motor and image stabilisation.
To sum up, the Canon 18-200mm Æ’/3.5-5.6 IS offers slightly better performance than we're accustomed to seeing with vacation lenses, with image stabilization thrown into a very portable form factor.

Good optical performance for a superzoom, Excellent image stabiliser, Decent build quality, Fast focusing

Zoom creep, Barrel distortion at 18mm, No lens hood supplied
The mere comparison of the lists of pros and cons shows that our summary can’t be positive. Good and even but not splendid work in the frame centre is simply not enough a reason for a lens to be only praised.

average image quality on the edge of the frame,, chromatic aberration corrected weakly,, significant distortion,, huge vignetting,, distinct astigmatism at the shortest focal length,, modest accessory kit.
Canon had a somewhat weird timing regarding the release of their EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS. It is extremely difficult to design such a lens to start with and more so under low-cost requirements.
This is my 2nd 18-200 lens which I received 3/9/16. The IS quit working on the first one I got in Oct, 2008. I was very happy with the first one and the 2nd one seems very good also. One thing I noticed is that there is no lens creep. The zoom ring seems to have much more resistance.
I love this lens, it's my go to and it takes great pictures. My only issue is that it's HEAVY. I know it's high quality, but I really feel like I'm packing a huge camera when I take this out. But I do love it...
I got this as a kit lens with my 60D. On an APS C body, 18mm is about 29mm (28.8) and 200mm is 320mm equivalent (mm x 1.6 crop factor) so the range is equivalent to Canon's 28-300mm for full frame bodies.
I love this lens with my new T6s but unfortunately because of credit restrictions on HSN I need to return it. If a person goes over limit they are held responsible for the overage amount plus what the minimum payment is, If I could keep it I would!
I use this lens in every day in church with excellent results.

Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Lightweight, Strong Construction
This was the kit lens I got with my 60D. I loved it at first but after a few months started to be unimpressed with its sharpness. It is not a bad lens just not great. I would have been disappointed if I paid retail price for it.

Great zoom range, multi purpose lens. will do most anything a beginner photographer would want to do.

zoom creeps really really bad I have to keep my hand on the zoom ring to stop it from moving while shooting. May be my lens though as it has got a lot looser since I first started using it. If I point it at the ground it falls down to about 170mm. quite soft, can be slow to focus in lower light.
Brilliant lens to whoever wants a lens that can perform at wide range of lengths, I would strongly recommend.

Build quality, Image Stabilization, good range of length so know need to change lenses .
-
-
Weight, movement in the lens because of weight, price .
You don't have to worry about changing lenses on the fly when doing a shoot. This lens can handle the group shots as well as the closeup portraits. I do many weddings and this piece will let me run around without having to do a quick change and miss some shots.

Lens Creep
Where do I start... This lens gets the most action/time on my camera. Images are clear and color accurate and the zoom range makes it hard to take off. I am a 1:1 ratio person that hates photos that only look good from far.
