Overall, however, this is a very impressive lens given its 11x zoom range. The weaknesses noted above should not be given undue weight as there is no denying the fact that this is a versatile and capable lens that has the potential to keep APS-C users happy for many years to come.

Canon’s EF-S 18-200mm IS is quite simply the lens many Canon DSLR owners have been waiting for. It equips EF-S compatible models with a massive 11.1x optical zoom range, equivalent to 29-320mm, and crucially includes Image Stabilisation to iron out any camera shake.

  • +

Enormously flexible 11.1x optical range., Effective Image Stabilisation., Lock control to prevent barrel from extending., End section doesn’t rotate when focusing.

  • -

Noticeable barrel distortion at 18mm., Softness and fringing in corners., No USM focusing or full-time MF., Some creep on the barrel.

The EF-S 18-200mm F3.5-5.6 IS is a lens which many Canon users have been waiting for with great anticipation, as an ideal 'all-in-one' lens for travel and 'walkaround' use. In the flesh it behaves much as we'd expect from such an ambitious design, as an 11x zoom range will always necessitate some...

  • +

Huge 11x focal length range, ideal general purpose and travel lens, Excellent image stabilization system, consistently delivering three to four stops benefit, Good central sharpness at all focal lengths (but inconsistent corners), Attractive rendition of out-of-focus regions of the image, Improved...

  • -

Poor sharpness across much of the frame at 18mm and wider apertures, Pronounced barrel distortion at wideangle, and pincushion distortion around 50mm, High levels of chromatic aberration at either end of the zoom range

A popular all-in-one lens covering a massive 11x zoom range that costs around £410 and includes a silent ultrasonic focusing motor and image stabilisation.

A 29-320mm equivalent on APS-C Canon EOS models, this lens ($700, street) boasts the broadest zoom range of any interchangeable optic from Canon to date: 11X. A high-end kit option for EOS 50D owners, it probably owes its existence to the phenomenal success of Nikon's 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 VR Nikkor.

This lens is one of the canon package options when buying a DSLR and that is a great time to get it! I chose it for the added versatility over the other option (18-55 or 18-135) and for only $100 more. Ultimately you will get a $[$]lens for around $300 when buying as a package.

This lens gives me excellent color and sharpness with my T4i,60D, and 70D bodies. It focuses fast and eliminates lens changing. It is made very well and has ample body and weight to it as well as having a metal mount. I highly recommend a Tiffen UV filter to protect the len's glass.

Great overall lens, allows me to take only one lens. Pictures look great.

Only annoyance is that the lens "trails out" when hanging by the neck strap. Seems like that could have been engineered out. Its also a bit heavy but if you were too concerned about that you would be using a pocket camera instead of a DSLR, right?

This was the kit lens I got with my 60D. I loved it at first but after a few months started to be unimpressed with its sharpness. It is not a bad lens just not great. I would have been disappointed if I paid retail price for it.

  • +

Great zoom range, multi purpose lens. will do most anything a beginner photographer would want to do.

  • -

zoom creeps really really bad I have to keep my hand on the zoom ring to stop it from moving while shooting. May be my lens though as it has got a lot looser since I first started using it. If I point it at the ground it falls down to about 170mm. quite soft, can be slow to focus in lower light.

Brilliant lens to whoever wants a lens that can perform at wide range of lengths, I would strongly recommend.

  • +

Build quality, Image Stabilization, good range of length so know need to change lenses .

  • -

Weight, movement in the lens because of weight, price .
