It's also a sensible move for Canon to introduce what's effectively its first intermediate EF-S kit lens. Previously it was a big jump in price from the basic EF-S 18-55mm IS to either the EF-S 17-85mm IS USM or its successor the EF-S 15-85mm IS USM.

Flexible 7.5x range zooms 2.5x closer than basic kit lens., Effective Stabilisation with 3 stops in our tests., Metal lens mount and non-rotating filter mount., Affordable step-up from basic kit lens.

  • -

Soft in extreme corners, especially at larger apertures., Noticeable vignetting and geometric distortion., Loud AF motor, and MF ring rotates during AF., Some creep between 20 and 85mm (actual).

Bundled often as a kit with the Canon EOS 7D and 50D, this APS-C format zoom ($450, street) is for shooters who want more than a bare-bones 18–55mm kit lens without paying $575 (street) for the extra reach of Canon’s 18–200mm IS superzoom.

I'm new to DSLR with some experience in prosumer digital photography. I find this lens versatile and pretty sturdy. Would recommend as a good starter and all purpose lens. IT does suffer from vignetting and barrel distortion however this is easily fixed in post processing. Using on Canon 60D.

  • +

Consistent Output, Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus

  • -

    Heavy, Lens Creep

This lens has a good focal range but with a constant vignetting problem. The auto focus works well in daylight, however searches too much in less adequate outdoor and indoor lighting situations. The lens is built well despite the other issues and would make a good starter lens.

  • +

sharp images, good focal range, quick image stabilization

  • -

    Slow auto-focus, vignetting

I purchased this lens with a 7D. I found it to be a great range, as I did not use the 10-24 a lot even while shooting scenery in Alaska for the summer. However, I am now faced with a large repair or replacement cost, as it does not focus smoothly and will change the zoom range when focusing.

I am an avid CANON user. Purchased the 60D and this lens came in the kit. Used it as much as a professional level user for over two years. The lens popped out a couple of months ago but I feel that I got every penny's worth of use from that lens.

Love this lens, it's a wonderful everyday lens eliminates the need to swap out lens. I bought this one as a used lens, and haven't had any issue with it so far (D quality). The lens arrived in the stated condition. I've only been using it for a week, I replace my 18-55 lens, with this one.

I broke my old 18 - 55mm lens and bought this one as a replacement due to being 18 a 135mm and not having to change lenses as often. It works well. It is much bigger and heavier though.

My experience with Canon's lenses over the past 15 years have been nothing but excellence. And, they keep on improving their lenses, as well.

A great EF-S APS sized zoom lens that covers a mild wide angle to telephoto range. The 4 stops IS marketing fluff is true. It tested it down to 1/4 of a second and the images come out crisp and clean as against IS being turned off where camera shake and blur really shows.

  • +

A wonderful image range of 18-135mm (29-216mm)., REAL Image Stabilization rated at 4 stops. 3 stops rating on other reviews, but hey, 3 to 4 stops is great feature!, The difference between a non IS and IS on a 70-200mm white lens is over a thousand dollars. On this lens, it's already there!

  • -

It looks like a plain cheap cylinder, not a sexy lusty lens. It doesn't demand attention as the more sexy L and white lenses., Soft at the wide angle end, for the pixel conscious. Set to F8 and sharpness improves dramatically.

The Canon EF-S 18-135 mm lens is an all-purpose telezoom for Canon SLRs. It has an EF-S mount, and the field of view is equivalent to 29-216 on a 35 mm film camera. It has an image sstabilizer that can allow you up to 4 stops slower shutter speeds …
