Canon may not have a Pentaxian-level love affair with pancake lenses, but they still have a history here. During the EF mount era, they had an EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM as well as an EF 40mm f/2.8 STM. And they continued their journey with the (sort-of pancake) RF 16mm f/2.8 STM in 2022.
I bought the RF 28 2.8 STM, hoping it would make a nice lightweight walk around lens for my EOS R7. Indeed it's great: contrasty and sharp edge to edge wide open. It gets sightly sharper when stopped down, with optimal sharpness by F5.6.
this lens is exceptional, of all the non L lenses this ones the best hands down, from walking out of the shop testing a few street style photos, this is exactly the lens I'll put on the camera for out and about easy photography.
Compact and light.
I had bought a zoom lens for my Canon RF7 so wanted a more easy to carry and use prime lens for general us. This 28m is simplicity itself and is a pleasure to use. Wonderful sharp images and colours for something so small.
