Canon’s flagship APS-C format camera, the Canon EOS R7, looks and feels worthy of its billing. It features the same Dual Pixel CMOS AF II technology as the Canon R3, R5 and R6 in a weather-sealed body that’s smaller and lighter then the Canon 90D.
-
+
Phase detection focusing and intelligent subject detection, 32.5MP APS-C sensor, Same mount as Canon R3, R5 and R6
-
-
Limited RF-S lens range, Unique control arrangement, Lack-lustre viewfinder and screen specification
First introduced in May 2022 , Canon EOS R7 is a 33.0MP Advanced Mirrorless camera with a APS-C (22.2 x 14.8 mm ) sized CMOS sensor, built-in Image Stabilization, weather sealed body, Fully articulated touch screen and Canon RF lens mount.
-
+
Unlimited Video Recording (no 30min limit), Photo/Video Mode Switch, Anti-dust Shutter during Lens Change, Built-in Wireless (Wi-fi), Bluetooth Connectivity, 5-axis Image Stabilization, Articulating Screen, 4K at 60fps and FHD at 120fps Video Recording, Touch Screen, Electronic Built-in Viewfinder,...

Canon’s EOS R7 is a powerful mirrorless camera that confidently handles a wealth of subjects and situations, whether used for action and wildlife, or as a solid all-rounder for anyone who doesn’t feel the need or have the budget to build a full-frame system.
The Canon EOS R7 is a powerful yet affordable camera built around a 32.5-million-pixel APS-C CMOS sensor with Canon’s highly responsive Dual Pixel CMOS AF autofocus system with excellent subject detection capabilities.
![]() |
The Canon EOS R7 offers a slightly better build quality and additional features over its near outwardly identical looking sibling in the EOS R10 released alongside it, the biggest difference on paper at least being the larger pixel count of the EOS R7.
-
+
Compact camera body, Accessible price point, Large 32.5MP pixel count, Swift operation
-
-
Requires investment in Canon RF series lenses, No built-in flash, Close price point to some full-frame EOR R models
![]() |
The Canon R7 is an extremely capable and well-priced camera but it's let down by its lack of lens options. If Canon releases some more compelling glass for the RF-S system, it'll be much easier to recommend.
-
+
Great autofocus and subject recognition, Capable IBIS system, Ergonomic design, Speedy burst shooting, Good value for money
-
-
Very few RF lenses designed for APS-C, The new rear wheel isn't great, Slow sensor readout can introduce rolling shutter
![]() |
The Canon EOS R7 brings the heat to competing APS-C cameras with its fast and accurate autofocus and flexible video tools, making it a fine choice for photographers and videographers alike.
-
+
Excellent value, Stabilized 32.5MP sensor, Magnesium body material resists dust and splashes, Class-leading autofocus with subject recognition, Fires at 15fps with mechanical shutter, 4K60 video with 10-bit C-Log3 or HDR
-
-
Love-it or hate-it hybrid rear control wheel, So-so EVF for an enthusiast camera, Electronic shutter not ideal for freezing action
![]() |
There’s an awful lot to like about the Canon EOS R7 and it feels like the mid-range camera that a lot of Canon fans have been waiting for. It’s fast, has powerful autofocus that keeps up with a range of subjects, produces excellent images, handles well and is priced competitively.
-
+
Fast burst shooting, Great value, Good handling, Excellent autofocus and stabilization
-
-
Lack of native APS-C lenses, Average electronic viewfinder, Lack of 4K/120p video
Andy Westlake and Joshua Waller review Canon’s high-end APS-C format RF-mount mirrorless camera, which boasts a 32.5MP sensor and 30fps shooting
-
+
Compact, high-speed camera, High-resolution sensor, Rapid and reliable AF tracking, Weather-sealed camera body*, In-body image stabilisation (IBIS), High-quality 4K video, 15/30fps continuous
-
-
Very limited range of RF-S lenses, Rear joystick / command wheel takes some getting used to, 2.36m dot EVF is somewhat low-resolution for the price, *Kit lenses aren’t weather sealed

The EOS R7 is likely to be as popular as the EOS 7D II was among photo enthusiasts, not least because of its price-to-performance ratio. A quick check of the comparison table early in this review will show the many improvements the new camera offers, including its smaller size and lighter weight.

I waited to write this until I had a chance to really spend some time with the camera. This replaces my 7D Mark II and I am thoroughly pleased so far. The animal eye AF is really a game changer. So far I've been using it paired with the EF 400mm f/5.6L prime lens and the results have been excellent.

Not a technical review but just a short note to say how pleased I am with my new R7. I've only had this R7 kit for a few weeks, spent quite a bit of time watching YouTube videos about the use and set up and studying the manual. They've been most helpful.

Bought it to replace my 7Dii. Mirrorless makes such a difference.

Can see the simulated exposure and adjust it on the fly. 30 fps with tracking. Great for wildlife.

Still looking for any.

I am a professional portrait and event photographer. I am very pleased with the sharpness and overall quality of the images produced by this camera, even with a Canon ef to r adapter and several canon ef lenses. The motor drive is lightning fast and the camera is very easy to use.

I shot with a Canon FT-QL 35mm film SLR from 1968 to 2003 before going to the Canon DSLRs: Rebels and then the 70D and then the 80D. All of my DSLRS - even the Rebels - dwarfed the FT-QL in size and weight.

I have been looking to get a good camera for getting into nature photography as I get older and cannot work on vehicles, and I am very impressed with the image quality of this camera.
![]() |
Love the R7. Coming from a 7D Mark II I can certainly appreciate the new technology. The AF System is incredible. It feels like cheating! The body feels good in my hands, very light. Image quality with EF lenses and adaptor is really good. I can imagine with RF lenses!

I took a star off for 2 reasons. The first is the sensor. I would rather have paid more and it at least be a BSI sensor to reduce the noise in RAW files. A stacked sensor with faster readout would have helped with the rolling shutter in the electronic shutter mode.
![]() |
So far, a very good action, crop sensor camera. I find the tracking capabilities and burst shutter speed to be very good. While I have only had the camera for a week or so, the initial tests are very good.

I finally took the plunge in to the mirrorless world with the R7, I soon found out what I'd been missing with the excellent AF, I'm very pleased with my B I F, may it continue.
