The EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM is the best zoom you can get for shooting video with the EOS Rebel T4i, but it's not quite as sharp as its non-STM sibling.

  • +

Silent motor. Smooth video focus with T4i. Optically stabilized.

  • -

Some distortion. Not quite as sharp as non-STM version of lens.

Canon's newly designed EF-S 18-135mm IS STM is slightly smaller that the previous version, with a few improvements as well. They have re-developed the IS system, allowing you 4 full stops of correction.

  • +

Solid and traditional Canon lens feel., Slightly smaller than the previous 18-135mm lens, IS system works as advertised, Silent and very low vibration AF is great for continuous AF video recording, Very easy to use, controls are smooth, Sharp images throughout aperture range, Affordable price tag

  • -

AF system, while smooth and quiet, is slightly slower than a USM lens, Some CA is easily visible in some of our sample images

Handling and features This lens is an update to the current Canon 18-135mm IS lens, replacing the standard focusing motor with Canon's new stepping motor technology, which promises, smoother, quieter autofocus performance, which is especially suited to recording video.

I purchased this as part of the 7D Mark II package. It was a great price and so far has provided some excellent images. I usually shot the Canon 18mm - 200mm but found this lens to offer much of the same power and it is lighter to carry all day.

Captures good quality picture with perfect lighting unlike 18-55mm lens which needs lot of manual correction.

I love this lens, it's so much better than the lens that came with my Canon. It shoots better close up photos, and has more zoom capabilities. That's what makes it so great as a regular go to lens.

  • +

Consistent Output, Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Great all around use

Full time manual focus works and works GREAT. You just need to understand it uses the STM motor to focus NOT a set of focus gears.Prove it for yourself. Put the 70d into Live View shooting mode, cause the camera to focus, use the +/- key on the top back of the camera to enlarge the image and THEN...

  • +

Fast auto-focus, Superior build quality, Super-sharp images, quality construction, custom button assignments possible

This is a perfect "do everything" lens. Wide enough to get the big group shots, long enough to get distant subjects or tight close-ups. On my 7D, autofocus is very quick. I photographed a helicopter flying overhead, and the autofocus nailed 9/10 shots. Sharpness is also very good.

This lens is good and gets the job done for everyday photos, but the quality drops pretty quickly when you're zoomed to 135. I wish it was f/2.8, but I won't hold that against it. Just know what you're getting into.

When I don't have my 70-300L series on the 7-D I have this lens on it continuously. As previously mentioned, it can be used on a full frame body, AP-S bodies only. I have used this lens for weddings and it is great.

Should Be An L Series, Does Not Creep, Tack Sharp And Fast

Lens is great. It was great to see a lock button for the zoom. The lens is bit heavy but feels sturdy and feel-good hold. Very silent focusing and operation. Nice to have 67mm opening to let it more light.
