I use this bin mostly for birding and wildlife viewing. We have a lot of open area around here and my old 10 power bins just didn't quite have enough reach. My wife bought the 12x36 is version of these bins and we are extremely happy with them.
Amazing when it locks in while hand held. Bit on the heavy side. I upgraded strap to op/tech system for more comfort. Also added 58mm lens hoods to increase contrast especially when doing astronomy. Also added 62mm lens caps for the lens hoods. 58mm lens caps fit binox without lens hoods.
Very clear and gather light nicely. IS works wonders, only draw back is size and weight. would be nice if they came with caps for both ends for the price, not cheap.
no matter how great your optics are if you can't hold the binoculars steady you can't see detail. These eliminate most of the shake and really replace a tripod. I have several dozen binoculars from WWI surplus to Leica and Steiner. These obsolete every one of them.
Like you, I have too many binoculars and each pair has pluses and minuses. The Canon 15x50 IS are a cut above everything I have ever tried. The 15x magnifications get the subject really close and the 50mm objective gathers tremendous light.
Very pleased with the product. would but again.
Good points....crisp bright optics; good color rendition and correction.Typical Canon fit and finish; first rate. IS works fine considering high magnification; handheld still require steady hands for larger movements that binos can't compensate for.
Using this for general spotting for astrophotography and sky gazing. The image stabilization and bright views are simply perfect. Worth the $$ no doubt if you're serious about astro work.
The stabilization is better than non-stabilized binocs, but the magnification is pretty high, so it won't stabilize effectively unless you hold them very still. These are also pretty heavy. I would have liked to pay about half of what these cost.
One of the best astronomy investments I ever made.
