Dead at 2 years
My microwave lasted 2 years. This week something crackled and popped really loudly inside, and it no longer heats. Of course it comes with only a one year warranty. I expected a brand like Bosch to last at least a few years due to their reputation of premium German engineering - but I am severely disappointed. I've seen many other reviews say that their microwaves only lasted a little past a year or two. And the appliance repair shop I called said that Bosch microwaves do not have a good reputation.
I am really disappointed. I spent $7,000 on a full set of Bosch appliances, and now I will have a mis-matched microwave - because I will not waste my money on another Bosch microwave.

Electronic controls died after 3 years
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Generally I have had good experience with Bosch range and diswashers. This microwave is an exception. After 3 years, the clock/number console displayed only part of the number. Now a month later, the whole electronic console is dead. Repair will probably come close to the cost of a new unit. 3 years of extended warrantee would also be very costly. Very unsatisfactory for a high end product. Total cost of ownership on this product is outrageous. I'm very disappointed. Go with an inexpensive counter top model.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Upon installation the unit wouldn't heat! Appliance store sent out a service tech that declaared the magnetron was dead and indicated it would take 3-4 weeks to get a new part. Being a brand new microwave I called the store informing them that I wanted a new unit not a new part; it took more than a month for the replacement unit to arrive; we'll see how long it lasts. How can a brand new microwave be delivered with a "dead" magnetron (basically the engine of a microwave). Doesn't say much for the QA process. Probably wouldn't be looking at this unit if I just started shopping.

Great Microwave
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We've been using the new Bosch over-the-stove MW for about a month now and love it. It has a lot of presets if you want to use them. I like that you just put in the time and hit Start - I don't miss the quick times (hit 1 for 1 minute full power, etc.) that we had on our old GE MW. Too many times I forgot and overcooked the food with those quick times. I do wish the numbers on the touchpad were a bit larger for these older eyes - also, backlighting them would be helpful as well. Other than that, though, no complaints and it looks nice with our new Bosch fridge and stove.

Great Microwave So Far
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really like this microwave so far, but am giving it 4 stars for a couple reasons. First, the grate inside the microwave is too low. I can barely fit any food on the plate when it is in there, so it will live in my basement. Second, installation was a pain due to the way it was delivered. Maybe it was just us, but the two screw holes on top have clips that need to be attached and they both fell into the inside of the microwave. An install of 15 min turned into 1.5 hours, because of this! However, Bosch customer service reps were very helpful, so there's that.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Our GE unit quit working after 2 years so we thought we would opt for a higher quality micrfowave this time and bought the Bosch. It is a very solid machine with the touhpad on the left side which eliminates the concern about moving wires in the door. I would have liked to see some "quick" keys for common settings like coffee, popcorn, and even minutes like 1,2,and 5 min. The LED lights are great for over the stove and in the box. It was a very quick retrofit installation which only took a few minutes since the mounting holes matched up with the GE unit.

Very good quality & features
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We're quite happy with our Bosch HMV5053U microwave - in fact, the unit we recently bought is a replacement for our previous model Bosch, which lasted for about eight years of moderate duty. (I would've hoped for slighty more lifespan; the older unit started popping breakers and it wasn't cost-justified to continue replacing parts, so we replaced the unit.) Nevertheless, we were happoy enough with the older unit to replace it with the current Bosch model, which has nearly identical features. Plenty of capacity, flexible cooking options, solid construction. One thing I'd like to have is the ability to save your own favorite presets, but otherwise, the microwave does pretty much everything we want.

Seamless install
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm replacing another Bosch that worked for 14 (glorious) years and I was delighted to see this new one used all the same mounting hardware. My neighbor told me stories about how installing microwaves can be a nightmware. Not so for this one. I reused the same mounting plate on the wall, and also the same over-the-cabinet holes for the bolts on the top. This was the first time I've installed a microwave and the entire process took less than an hour. The new model looks fantastic and the two LED lights on the bottom really light up the oven range.
