Wow! The BenQ W1070 isn’t an alternative (when it comes to black level performance) to ultra-high-contrast projectors like the Epson 5020UB, Panasonic PT-AE8000U, or Sony VPL-HW50ES. But those are mostly $3000 range projectors.

Brightest 2D and 3D projector when calibrated that we’ve reviewed to date under $2,000, For those rainbow sensitive, minimal rainbows – excellent for the price!, Respectable blacks on dark scenes, Handles very large screens effortly for 2D viewing.

While our subject here is the W1070 home theater projector from BenQ, there’s more than a little business projector DNA in its genes. How else to explain a single-chip DLP design that’s a third the size and weight of most dedicated home theater models, has built-in audio with grim but usable mono...

For what you’re paying for, the BenQ W1070 is a satisfactory 3D projector suitable for most homes. While there are surely more superior models on the market that can give you a slightly better image quality, it would be doubtful to find one that matches this price.

If you’re looking for an affordable ticket to enjoy movies on the big screen in the comfort of your own home, then you could do far worse than the BenQ W1070. And if you manage to get it calibrated, we don’t think there’s any better alternative at this price point.

This budget projector needs only a few minor tweaks to serve up solid hi-def images

Exceptional value; strong out of the box picture performance; ISF certified

Pictures are a touch noisy; dark 3D scenes lack a little depth; no 3D glasses included for free

Once we’d managed to work round its setup limitations and figured out how to avoid a couple of initial picture niggles, we were left with pictures from the BenQ W1070 that comfortably surpassed our expectations, making it just the latest entry on a freakishly long list of 2012 projector bargains.

Amazingly cheap, Good 2D and 3D picture quality, Vertical image shift

No backlight on remote, Pictures look a touch noisy, Very limited optical zoom

With images better suited to home cinema than PC output, the BenQ W1070 is a very well priced model that looks great and works well. You'll need to spend some time grappling with its controls, and we'd recommend using SmartEco on a regular basis.

The W1070+ is another reasonably priced single-chip 1080p DLP projector from the BenQ; with their standard design and decent level of build quality.

Good level of detail, Great motion handling, Plenty of features, Decent build quality, Attractive price

Black levels are mediocre, Possible rainbow artefacts, Default accuracy could be better, Calibration controls ineffective, HDMI can be flakey

Let’s go over some of the numbers here: 1080p, 3D, $1,000. Pretty solid specs and pricing for flat-panel TV, except ... this is no flat-panel. BenQ’s W1070 is, as you have probably deduced, a projector.
This projector is set up in a home Theater environment. Great color, bright even at the lamp setting of Ecomode. Buy this projector and you will not be disappointed.

I have had this projector installed in my basement (the coolest area in the house) for a little over a year now. It is ceiling mounted with a Benq mount and projects onto a 115" screen. I live at about 6800', so I've enabled the High Altitude mode since I first set it up.
I'm really pleased about performance for a projector in this price range. I wasn't expecting this level of detail, sharpness and feature for such a "cheap" projector. In my opinion the W1070 can easily be compared to the slightly older double-priced BenQ W6000, Optoma HD82 etc.

The product is great right out of the box. Great lumens and simple remote. Cons - 1) remote is not backlit. I didn't think this would be an issue until I actually had to use it. 2) the projector is fairly noisy and gets very hot.
