The Asus ROG Strix GL703VM is a more powerful version of the GL703VD, which we reviewed back in October. In addition to a faster GPU, the GL703VM brings a 120 Hz display, but fan noise and temperatures leave room for improvement.
well-built, attractive chassis, relatively lightweight, excellent gaming performance, 120 Hz display makes for smooth gameplay (if framerates get high enough), plethora of ports, relatively easy maintenance, good keyboard
CPU throttles under load, gets very hot on CPU and exterior body, disappointing battery life, high amounts of backlight bleed in our unit, mechanical HDD is frustratingly slow and behaves inconsistently
The ASUS ROG STRIX GL703VD-WB71 combines a Pascal GTX 1050 card with a seventh-generation processor to deliver remarkable gaming performance for much less. It presents good value for anyone looking to play modern titles without spending so much.
Reasonably priced. Top-notch gaming performance. Plentiful storage. Appealing, relatively portable design.
Physical design may be unappealing to some. Ports aren’t well marked.
ASUS ROG’s Strix Scar laptop is aimed squarely at first person shooter gamers. It boasts GTX 1060 graphics, an i7-7700HQ processor and 16GB of DDR4 – but most impressive is the 120Hz Full-HD display and its 5ms response time.
The Asus ROG Strix GL703VD is a 17.3-inch entry-level to mid-range gaming notebook which tries to find the right balance between style, performance and price. Unfortunately, Asus' new notebook runs too hot and is too noisy given the comparatively modest performance of its graphics card.
slim, sturdy and upscale-looking design, bright, usable 1080p display, NVMe M.2 SSD + 2.5-inch HDD bays, hardware is easy to access, decent keyboard, great battery life
runs way too hot under load, can get very loud, no G-Sync or 120 Hz display option (need to step up to GL703VS/VM), no other GPU options, average touchpad
Boots fast with the SSD (under 17 seconds). Very easy to use even with of all of the Photo Programs that I use for editing and restoring photos. Chose it because of the 2.8 GHz and the 16GB of DDR4 RAM. Display and clarity is excellent. Have not used it for gaming yet.
Very Hot. CPU is running at 95c while playing games. Called ASUS support and they confirmed that it is not supposed to run at that temp. They offered to have me send it in for repairs. No thanks. I will return and buy something else.
Very happy. First half decent gaming laptop for me but seems to run everything I need at max graphics. I personally don't find it too hot or too noisy, I was expecting worse from some other reviews.
I haven't had any problem with the keyboard heating up, I've spent several hours gaming, it warms up of course but never has it overheated. I still bought a cooling pad just to be on the safe side but I conducted experiments to see if I really needed one, results show that the internal fans do their...
Used primarily for graphics work and gets the job done smoothly with all the power it comes with. Highly recommended.
I use this to edit photos, video and play some games on. The machine is fast to start and has some places to tweak performance. Two drives come in very handy and I find the machine to be very solid.
This laptop has GTX 1060 6 GB GPU and is still having problems running 2 year old games like Path of Exile. You need to lower texture quality a lot. My 3 year old desktop PC is faster than this laptop. You will see a lot of performance spikes when running new games.
Was received on Wednesday and I just use it for 2 days， Day 1: found light leaking issue on 4 side. Day 2: here is some broken pixel exist，what a joke！ will use it for another 2 weeks， if the problem are getting worse， I will consider for refund
piece of rubbish, First one turned up with left speaker not working. Replacement after 3 weeks use picked up graphics issue where monitor constantly shows yellow line for no reason. litterally had it onlap(on top of lap tray to let air flow) watching tv and it just randomly got yellow line.
Love it, best gaming laptop I have used
