With the variety of content I played through the X800M2, video quality was competitive with similarly priced players out there. However, the X800M2 adds in support for SACD, DVD-Audio, and HEVC video file playback, as well as HDR-to-SDR conversion, adding extra value.

Sony’s dedication to 4K Blu-ray results in another fine player for the money, despite a couple of peculiar traits

No HDR10+, Strange Dolby Vision implementation, Picture lacks a little vibrancy
Compared with the X800, the M2 adds DolbyVision, but forgets to implement an automatic activation depending on the material.I still miss the great-sounding digital optical output (Tosklink) from previous models. The lack of display is sometimes a limitation in practical use.
This is a fantastic, well-made machine that's got quite a bit of heft to it. It's much heavier than the lower UBP-X700 (which has also got rave reviews too). The 800M2 is fast and most importantly, super quiet when spinning the discs.

Exceptional video and solid build quality, built in Dolby Vision and HDR10, separate HDMI audio output, nice sale price.

Lacks Component video outputs (but nowadays no longer needed
I am pleased so far with operation and blue ray picture quality is great
Splendid look and excellent build quality. Very good picture and sound from BD and Netflix. However there are three problems:1) Dolby Vision doesn't activate automatically. Must be turned off manually each time you are watching a non DV movie.
I do not have a 4k TV yet, so I can't speak to that level of operation. The player works perfectly with 1080p Blu-ray and 1080p HD TV. Set-up was a breeze and software update worked without a hitch. I have the player hooked up to my network via ethernet.

No screen saver on pause of disc. No wireless ac standard.
I have waited months to get this machine and was very excited to set it up yesterday. I tested several movies and the picture quality was amazing all around.BUT, as has been mentioned by other reviewers, there is no automatic sensing of Dolby Vision content.
At first I was having a hard time choosing between this unit and an LG model at the same price. My TV is an LG but I have always had good luck with Sony products.A couple features on this model was the tipping point for this unit. First is its build quality. This is a well built player.

no display of front panel
Bought this 2 days ago and considering replacing it with the more costly Panasonic UB820 mainly due to a major design flaw by Sony...AGAIN. Dolby Vision is not auto detected by the player, and as such, must be turned on to view a DV disc, and turned off once finished.
Did I think a new Sony 4 K Blu-ray player was going to improve the quality of my dvd and Blu-ray collection,NO. But I was wrong and honestly just blown away. And I can watch 4 K on my older Sony since I have not upgraded to a 4 K television. Sony has never disappointed me with any of there products.

Older dvd and BD look even better now
Great player with the exception of Dolby Vision implementation. Navigating through multiple menus for manual DV toggle is an absolute design fail! Auto detection is needed. At minimum program one of the yellow/blue/red/green buttons to toggle.
