Rich and detailed image quality, Defined detail pictures, Decent value

Sound could be more powerful

The Sony UBP-X700 is at the cutting edge of 4K Blu-ray technology and rewards with a solid performance at a reasonable price.

The Sony UBP-X700 is a compact powerhouse that offers similar performance and better features than the X800 for a $50 discount. The player includes a host of streaming options, and Dolby Vision support is forthcoming. The time it takes for the player to load Netflix is insanely fast.

-
Only supports streaming 4K HDR from YouTube. Both cheaper competitors and Sony's own X800 offer better DVD performance.

Sony's UBP-X700 Ultra HD Blu-ray player walks the same path as the UBP-X800 before it, delivering great video performance in a stable package. You don't get some of the more advanced configuration and performance options that you'll find in higher-end players from OPPO and Panasonic--like internal...

Sound could be punchier and grander

4K Blu-ray is now gaining popularity for home enthusiasts and with companies releasing new and catalog titles in the format, nearly everyone is starting to go 4K. The first wave of 4K Blu-ray players was actually good, but they weren’t really affordable.

Excellent picture quality, Affordable

Exterior build quality isn’t the best
![]() |
There is a palpable difference between streamed 4K content and the quality this device can produce. My spies at JB Hi-Fi say the Netflix effect did have an impact on 4K HDR disk sales but its gradually coming back. For two reasons.

Good entry-level 4K Blu-ray with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos

None really

Design and build don't dazzle here, and connectivity is limited, but the UBP-X700 lets Sony hit a new 4K price point – and appeal to Dolby Vision TV owners at the same time.
![]() |
The Sony UBP-X700 is rather flimsy in construction, which is disappointing when you compare it to the tank-like build quality of the X800. To reach a lower price point Sony obviously had to cut corners – literally, in the case of this player’s angled chassis.

Excellent picture performance, Dolby Vision support, SACD disc playback, 4K video streaming services

-
No HDR10+ support, Noisy in operation, Flimsy build quality

Sony finally adds Dolby Vision to a 4K player
I have owned the product for a few weeks now and have watched DVDs and used some of the streaming apps too. The 4KUltra is purely outstanding to watch and this product delivers it very well on both DVDs and the streaming apps. When a DVD can be upscaled to near 4K it looks awesome.
Great li'l disc player! I went with this model since I could upgrade the firmware for Dolby Vision. That was a pretty easy process. It would be nice if the player could automatically sense if it's Dolby Vision media, but one step at a time, I guess. Hopefully that will be with another upgrade.

Hi Res, Dolby Vision option, easy setup

It looks like it Dolby Vision media isn't automatically recognizable, but hopefully with another firmware update that could be changed.
You should Absolutely buy this! The depth of sound is incredible, especially considering the price. I’ve paid twice as much for systems that didn’t sound half as good. I don’t know how they do it for this price.
We've always bought Sony DVD players, with great success. However, after almost 2 months of using this one, there are a few issues we do not like. The 1st is in the system itself, which does not remember where you left off when you eject a disc, so you have to manually find your previous location on...
Excellent video quality and ease of use. I bought it for my DVDs and don’t own any Blu Ray disk, In addition to the DVDs I use the network interfaces to connect to the web and access Netflix via my cellphone’s hotspot and the DVD player connected just fine.
The Sony UBP-X700, 4K Blu-ray Player was an upgrade from the player it replaced. The picture quality and sound are notably better. The quality of the picture and sound is amazing. NFM made it easy to pick up and the product was easy to install.
I picked this unit for its being able to play SACD discs. It plays my cds and writable DVDs no problem so far. It will not play a Columbia studios DVD of JUMANGI that I own, so thats why I gave it a four star rating.
Sony quality is always good and it was compatible with my Samsung flat screen TV.
