Zoom have gone back to the drawing board and designed a multitracker for today's market, where integration with computer recording systems is a central concern. The result is a very well thought‑out product that, at this price, deserves to sell a shedload.
Excellent value for money., Eight‑track simultaneous recording, and can be sync'ed to a second R16 for 16‑track recording., Completely silent in operation., Doubles as a very capable eight‑in/two‑out audio interface and fader controller for DAWs., Internal mics are a nice bonus.
Mixing on the R16 without a computer is not much fun., Only two preamps have phantom power., No digital I/O., Managing multiple takes or overdubs is tedious.
This product is really working for our band, recording 11 tracks at once. So I'm 100% happy with the two that we've purchased. But our application is very simple. Press record at the start of each song at practice and stop at the end of each song. Then offload the files to Ableton for post editing.
Easy To Use
Many Features Don't Work
Looking for a solid mixer, I landed upon this bit of kit here, and it delivers quite the length more. * 8 inputs, 1/4" cords or all XLR inputs, plug it in. I wanted something for that "live" momentum, so I've not really dealt with the DAW side of it, but it records the tracks splendidly.
It's affordable and it does what it is supposed to do. It may loose synchronization in a middle of a recording session or chop wave files, but it happens seldom.
Cheap and functional multitrack recorder.
As always with ZOOM, everything is low quality plastic and not always working.
The scope of this device is a stand-alone digital multi-track recorder. To think that you would get a fully licensed version of DAW software is unrealistic. Again, this device is meant to be used sans computer.
No need for a computer, or to learn complicated software. Record, Mix, Done! Controls my DAW software: Sonar 8 producer Very portable and not cumbersome at all. Sound quality is not colored by the device.
Would be better if it had 16 individual track channel controls, but not a big deal. Did not purchase from Newegg.
