At the time of this review Sony does not offer a native standard lens for Sony NEX cameras so it makes sense to explore beyond the beaten path. The Zeiss Biogon T* 35mm f/2 ZM is a Leica M mount lens which can easily be used via a Leica M to E-mount adapter.
i Have 50 F2 ZM which i love wasn't that impressed with this. but still would recommend if you want to save big $$ i was comparing against Leica Cron and it had no chance
This lens is crystal clear, extremely sharp, and has no distortion. It is the best lens I have.
This is the finest lens in my collection of fast manual lenses - worth every penny of price. Useful on nearly every full-frame or APS-C mirrorless digital camera body with just a simple adapter (note: on APS-C the focal length will be about 53 mm).
I am not sure why I waited in buying the Zeiss lenses. I loved the Contax G lenses and it only made sense. Right now, I have this attached to a Leica M2. It's movements are pretty smooth and the image quality lives up to its name. You'll love it.
I use this lens with a Sony Nex-6, so my comments are strictly from that point of view. The lens has been on the camera now for 8 months. It's been used for portraits, street shooting and landscapes and has performed flawlessly.Distortion is virtually non-existent.
I bought this lens and a 50mm f/2 Planar to replace a 50+ year old 50mm f/1.5 Summarit on my Leica M2. The Zeiss lenses are outstanding in quality and they are, in my opinion, every bit as good as Leitz lenses and much less expensive too.
What I love about this lens is the nice warm Zeiss coloring. And as a BIG plus, it is easier to prefocus and shoot quickly than it's Leica equivalent, not to mention, a much better price.
This lens is an excellent option for any M Mount camera. The f2 max aperture is fast enough to be used indoors when paired with 400ISO film. Much of my formal photography involves repeating patterns or lines that run fully across the photo and this lens shows negligible distortion in such...
