Carl Zeiss Makro Planar T* 50mm f/2 is one of the new generation SLR lenses that Zeiss introduced (fairly recently) for a number of SLR camera mounts, including Nikon, Pentax and most recently Canon.
Just like the rest of the Zeiss Z-series, the Makro-Planar 50mm f/2 is not a lens for mainstream users due to the lack of AF. However, to put things into perspective - AF is not a killer feature for macro lens anyway but then you may also argue that its very large max.
Just like the rest of the Zeiss ZF gang the Makro-Planar 50mm f/2 is not a lens for the mainstream due to the lack of AF and electronic coupling. To put things into perspective AF is not a killer feature for macro lens anyway but then you may also argue that its very large max.
This lens its an óptic Masterpiece, absolutely amazing. Incredible build quality, the ring is like butter, unique zeiss micro contrast, sharp, sharp, sharp!. And has the advantage from close focus and 2:1 macro incredible for flowers and mid size animals. I cant find Anything bad about this lens.
I love this lens and it is a great all-rounder. I use it with a Commlite electronic adapter on Sony A7R ii. The focussing aids, especially magnification, makes manual focus super easy (easier than the DSLR's these lenses were designed for).
I've used at least a dozen normal lenses (probably more) from the 50 Summicron on my Leica M6 to the most recent 50 f/1.8G. This lens stands above all others in optical excellence across a range of attributes.
