Quality, lack of compromise and elegance of design. These are the things that characterise the new lens, one which I have found very exciting to use. It also does not fall into the trap of being clinically sharp without having that indefinable character.

The 40mm is a very fine lens. I immediately updated the firmware to V02 to overcome the close focusing concerns when the lens was first released and can confirm that it now stops down to a maximum of f2.8 (gradually from about 0.6m.
