I've used several Yongnuo and other 3rd party flashes over the years however Yongnuo has always hit a sweet spot of performance vs price and in recent times the feature set is really enticing. Build quality on the Yongnuo YN685 is fair especially when you consider the price.
I am a real estate photographer and purchased the YN685 to eliminate blown out windows in my interior shots. The YN685 zooms to 20 mm and provides great coverage, even when I am shooting at 17 mm and using a diffuser. The YN685 does have a wide panel that will zoom to 14 mm, but I don't need that.
i have waited years to join the game of flash photo because of the price of the name brand hot shoes. finally with yongnuo also getting better over the years i thought it was time to get involved. man these units are great. they do it all. zoom, master, focus assist. crazy what they can do.
Powerful, extremely sturdy and well-built, technically brilliant speedlite, that works perfectly on my Nikon D7100s, at a tiny fraction of the price of an equivalent Nikon unit. This thing is almost too good to be true...but it is. I highly recommend this speedlite.
I bought two of these to use for nature photography. I attached a Altura Photo Flash Diffuser and the result was really great nature close-up pictures. The Panasonic Eneloop AA rechargeable batteries lasted all day and about 350 flash wildflower pictures at South Yuba River State Park.
The best for the price!
I purchased a YN685 for my Nikon camera less than a year ago. It only lasted a couple weddings and now is inoperable. The flash output is very weak no matter what mode I use. All the images are underexposed no matter what camera setting I use. The unit overheats within minutes of turning it on.
I needed a flash more powerful than my 430ex and one that could be used with my 622 trigger this one works very well for both. The reason for 4 stars is the manual is confusing in some parts.
I've got two of these and so far they have been working perfectly and I believe they go the best with rechargable eneloop batteries; the recycling time would be a lot faster than normal batteries.I LOVE the fact that they have built in radio receivers.Absolutely bargain.
These flash units work flawlessly with my 622 controller. While I have several other flashes that I use when I need more than 3 units (for rim light or killing shadows on background) I always go for these first because I don't need to dig out the transmitters.
