Purchased the Yamaha Sub to compliment my Audio Engine 5+ powered computer speakers. The size and shape of the speaker fits perfectly with furniture I use for equipment placement. I find the sound to be just as expected clean and powerful.
To my ears, it's pretty mushy. Solid bass punch does emerge at times, but they're rarities. More often it's drony and over-saturated. This may be a consequence either of the acoustic characteristics of the room it's currently in or having no manual cutover control.

Fantastic finishing touch for my home theater setup.

Too large for where I want to put it, but that's my problem. Since it's a subwoofer, relocation will be easy.
We have an apt. sized living room so an over powered big sub would be too much. I have this shelf sub in a system with a yam. 377 amp, yam 333 bookshelf speakers and I'm real happy with it. I guess if you want rattle the windows power for hip hop music you might need more.
I was looking for a compact subwoofer for my RV, and this does a nice job, with the front port and down firing speaker. I now use it as part of a compact system for my bedroom. I've used it for 3 months with no problems

I have a custom built theatre in by home. It is an enclosed space 14' X 9' and used exclusively for viewing movies. This unit delivers more than adequate low frequency bass for stunning realism, handling both special effects and music beautifully.

No real drawbacks, unless you are looking to fill a much larger room.
Purchased to completed home theatre system. I am using it with a Yamaha Media Controller and 5.1 surround, Pioneer Bluray, Scepter led/lcd and Dish DVR. Soooo goood!
So, the reviews saying this doesnt have great power at the lowest hertz ranges are true. I like them because I have a SONY receiver with two subwoofer jacks and a small apartment (hence, low profile is good for me).
Wow. This sub packs a serious punch for such a small, compact unit. I have this setup with my 5.x Atlantic Technology surrounds and Onkyo receiver in my 15x18 home office, and together with them it sounds amazing. Huge bang for your buck!
