This is a great backup drive for the Mac. I had an issue with a different brand portable drive that was originally a PC formatted drive that I reformatted for Mac. I choose this drive because it had good reviews and was pre-formatted for Mac.
I have at least 7 older versions of this drive, which have performed well and remained functional I purchased this version of the drive because of the USB-C feature. That turned out to be a USB3 to USB-C adapter cable. Using this method, I would guess that any drive could be called USB-C ready.
I have these drives (4) each hooked up to the separate USB-C ports on the rear of my MacMini (2018) to get the fastest throughput. I like that they have a small foot print and are stackable and dont require a separate power supply as the desktop models require.
Functionality as a backup drive is easier to setup and operate. However, I've not found any place where you can specify the number of backups you wish to create as you could with prior passports. May end up calling WD support, as I've not found any type of answer to that issue in FAQ's or online.
What the other reviewers said is true, It works right out of the box. It partitioned into three easily. It is big compared to the 2TB My Passport Ultra that I previously owned as backup for my PC.This 2TB drive did not work for the Mac so I retired it.
My new MacBook Air has the TB size storage, so I needed a larger backup device - and one that was faster than the older USB 3.0 I was using on the previous Air. The drive plugged in, I told OS X to use it for Time Machine, and away we go. Backups are noticeably faster and test restores work great.
I purchased three 4 TB external drives to use with Lightroom and Time Machine on my new iMac. They were easy to set up and so far work flawlessly and reasonably quickly. I was going to use the third drive as additional back up, but decided to use cloud storage.
This hard drive is big and gets very hot when using it, mainly because it can hold a lot of data. In fact, more data than I would ever need. The bad thing about this drive, is that in addition to plugging it into your computer, it also has to be plugged into an outlet, something that most other hard...
The title says it all. Didn't use the included software, just deleted that. Like the USB-C cable.
This is a USB Micro B super speed drive with a USB-C adapter. So it's as USB-C as any other peripheral you own that you have an adapter for. Which means you can't take full advantage of USB-C's speed and efficiency. It also means that if you have a MacBook, it takes up the only C port.
