WD 4TB My Book USB 3.0 External Hard Drive

Strangely mixed reviews. Editors of The Wirecutter award the My Book their "Best External Desktop Hard Drive" title partly because of its good record for reliability. In their analysis of Amazon.com reviews, they found a failure rate of under 5 percent.

All I want is a simple system where I plug in an external drive, and it back's up my computer's. I would like it to be very simple. Such as you plug it in, it is recognized, and you hit a simple backup prompt, and it shows you the progress of backup, etc.

  Windows always wants to "fix" this drive when plugged in WD software is not as easy as I would like it Many times, computer won't find this drive easily

Used it right away to backup my photos. File transfer is fast! I was expecting a bigger size, but nope, this one is small enough to fit among my clutters on table. Sold at a good price too. :)So far so good! I picked WD because of their reputation for quality and durability.

I am through buying these. I have 6 or 7 dead External Drives. Doesn't matter who makes them. I Got Seagate, Lace, WD. Really you are just borrowing the information.I'm going to using Raid Storage.

I was surprised to find out that there was no power switch on this external drive. Must be the new way of making them. Setup is quick and easy. I deleted some of the unnecessary language files for the user's manual before backing up files from my PC. The only one I need is English.

The WD 3T external hard drive would not install on my W7 computer. After 2 telephone calls to WD tech. service and returning hard drive to try another WD, tech. service gave up. Therefore I returned the WD hard drive.

I have three external backups now. One Seagate, and two Western Digital. This is very quite and fast! I was surprised how small it was. It's as small as my 1TB Seagate. It also comes with their Backup Pro software which was a major reason I bought this over the other brand. Highly recommend this

All-in-all a decent drive for backing up files. It is slightly pricier that seagate drives but definitely worth the few extra $$$ to get the WD reliability. It is quite large so if you are looking to carry it around or to and from work, it might not be the best option.
