I have drives from WD that still run perfectly after 5+ years so trying out the 8TB was a no brainer. I have only had it for about a month and it runs great. I use it as a second backup and for that price you can't go wrong.
Solid product that is not too bulky. It measures 6.7x5.5x1.9 inches. For a USB 3.0 enclosure using a 3.5" HDD it reads and writes at about 165MB/s. The WD software is quite easy to use and allows for password protection to unlock the drive as well as scanning utilities to detect bad sectors.
6TB = 5.6TB exFAT of storage for Mac or Windows compatibility
NO LED or visual power indicator
Lots of storage space for cheap! Easily shuckable too. A WD white label was inside. Pretty much a wd red 5400rpm 8tb hdd with a quirk that prevents it from being used on certain psu.
Not what I expected when I purchased it. Looking to return the item because it is not being recognized on my computer and will not back up my iMac. Says its compatible to Apple but it doesn't work with Time Machine. So if you have an Apple, try look for something else that's compatible.
Moderate difficulty to set up and understand now to integrate with existing peripherals and applications. I am undecided as to whether it serves it's intended purpose for storing music files.
Bought for a HTPC/Plex server. Work as soon you plug it. After few days I look at the temperature and it was running a bit hot nothing major. Around same time a bad/weak sector was reported by Hard Disk Sentinel. But one bad/weak sector is nothing major as a problem still perform very well.
Large capacity and quiet nice looking external hard drive
Run a bit hot, After few days one bad/weak sector was found
My HD was getting full and I found that my back-up drive needed at least 2X the memory that my HD has. It can then do a complete backup and if a 3rd backup is done it pushes the oldest one out. This drive seems to back up much faster. It has USB 3.0-3.5 and a faster write speed too.
Very good value for money; looks good and feels solid...so far, no grizzles at all.
I purchased this 4 TB drive on sale for $105 which was an excellent price compared to drives that had far less capacity. I needed this size to hold backups for my desktop PC with a 1 TB hard drive.
Would have given it 5 stars but it had no instructions and came with a boot partition on the drive that hung the machine on reboot until I change the BIOS settings to avoid looking at USB drives.
