They're not overly loud. I don't think the people comparing them to raptors have ever heard a raptor hard drive before or remember what they're like. Those things sound like a pot of coffee brewing. This doesn't. Its comparable to my WD black hard drive. Possibly slightly louder when writing data.

Bought 16 for two NASs. One failed with SMART errors after <2 weeks. It eventually failed completely. Working on RMA with WD now. First time I've had issues in the dozens of WD Red Pros I've bought. Will buy again.

I bought this for the obvious reason, more drive storage. I'm unsure I'd buy another one. It seems to make some clicking noises similar to a drive head failure, but works flawlessly. I really do not know what the noise is, perhaps just head movement. It's very inconsistent with timing.

I have two of the drives installed in a two bay NAS and the performance is fantastic in Raid 1. I just wish they were a bit quieter. They would be 5 stars if not for the noise.

While overkill I use this in my personal gaming PC. Be aware that this does make loud strange sounds while formatting but goes away an hour or so after the format is done. If you need a LOT of storage on one drive, I would suggest grabbing the top model like I did and call it a day.

Good Points: This is the 4th one I have bought - no complaints.

Good Points: The additional on board memory helps with access speeds. I’m hoping it will be more reliable but it’s only been a week. I have now had 3 No. 4TB WD Red drives in 4 years. The 5 year guarantee was what attracted me to the more expensive pro drive.

Good Points: Very fast drive and very quiet considering the 7200rpm spin speed. Plus 5 year warrantyImprovement Points: A little expensive compared to the plus version of the drive - but worth it for the extra speed and extended warranty.

Mostly OK. Not as robust as the Gold/RE/SE drives in the old days. Western Digital warranty now sucks. !!! These drives are expensive. The customer deserves better warranty/support service.

Mostly reliable over-all: 1) We have 9 of these units, at various ages, running within a Synology DS3617xs NAS box since 2019. 2) Light use, mostly cold storage, not a production server. 3) The oldest 12TB Gold 121KRYZ drive has just died, during a RAID 6 expansion, with >400 bad sector relocations.

Claiming warranty from Western Digital was a nightmare: 1) To be fair, NOT all of our drives were purchased from MemEx, the effected drive was not, so we had to deal with WD directly.
