The Tokina 11-20mm f/2.8 Pro DX is a bright, sharp, ultra-wide lens for Canon and Nikon systems, but a noisy focus motor makes it less than ideal for video.

  • +

Quite sharp., Bright f/2.8 aperture., Ultra-wide angle of view., Nominal vignette.

  • -

Slow, loud autofocus., Visible distortion., Focus clutch can be tricky to use., Not weather sealed., Omits image stabilization.

The Tokina AT-X 11-20mm f/2.8 PRO DX is designed for Canon and Nikon DSLR cameras with APS-C sensors and follows on from two earlier lenses – the Tokina AT-X 11-16mm f/2.8 PRO DX and the Tokina AT-X 11-16mm f/2.8 PRO DX II.

A niche lens, but one that should be considered if you shoot on a Canon or Nikon APS-C DSLR and require a wide-angle zoom with a fast aperture at a reasonable price.

The autofocus slip-up is painful, though. Perhaps the fact that in our test we used quite elderly bodies (the Nikon D7000 and the Canon 50D) contributed to that result; it is possible that the lens attached to a newer camera like the EOS 7D MkII or D7200 will perform better.

  • +

solid casing,, unique parameters,, sensational image quality in the frame centre no matter what focal length you employ,, sensible image quality on the edge of the APS-C/DX,, imperceptible longitudinal chromatic aberration,, moderate coma,, low astigmatism,, slight vignetting for this class of...

  • -

dismal AF/MF ring which performs poorly,, problems with autofocus,, higher distortion level than that of its rivals,, performance against bright light could have been better,, huge lateralc chromatic aberration.

I have been using the lens just for few days and I am very happy with the results. The visual range is very wide and I highly recommend it for DX sensor. I use it on a D7500.Sharpness is spectacular in open diaphragms and the fact of having f2.8 for the whole range makes this lens a very good...

This is one of the better wide angle DX options for Nikon. Unfortunately it flares terribly in direct sunlight and my shooting style involves quite a bit of shooting into the sun. Will likely sell and try something else.

I purchased this lens for the sole purpose of photographing the Milky Way. It did not disappoint me at all. the photographs i took with this were superb. The Infinity setting on the lens worked like a charm. I never had to adjust it after the initial setting in the 5 hours i was shooting.

I have mixed feelings about this product. It's very sharp when It comes to photography, what it comes to film it does look a little bit less sharp.

I bought this lens for my crop sensor camera and wasnt expecting a whole lot. this lens is great. it's very sharp almost side to side!! and as a bonus, i can use this on my full frame 16mm-20mm. dont let the price fool you, this is a great lens. i highly recommend it.

Exactly as the photo reviews all over the net claim: sharp, little distortion and can go up to 2.8 (for astrophotography) and 11m (very wide). Probably the best wide lens for DX ever produced.

Having no issues with focusing either in Auto or Manual on a D5500. Loving it for landscapes and astro. Only downsides are, it takes 82mm filters which may be another huge investment depending on you needs. Also, it is a serious piece of glass and has some weight to it.

This is a solid wide angle with a zoom capabilities. I purchased it to use for astrophotography and the results were amazing. Yes, even a blind pig occasionally finds an acorn! This is a keeper and since then I have used it many times. Works really well with my Nikon D7200.

I use this lense for full framed D800. This lense can fit from 17 to 20mm. It does an excellent job. When I took this lense with my on New Zealand vacation; I shot landscape and astronomy ,even wide open 2.8, just 15 second exposure I can get excellent pictures with nebulas.

I got this wide angle just in time for an architecture photography gig. The lens performed perfectly and I was positively surprised by how sharp images resulted, not only at the focus point, but around the edges as well, even when opening the diaphragm (I used mostly f/3.5).
