The lists of pros and cons show that the Tokina AT-X PRO FX SD 70–200 f/4 VCM-S is a really good instrument. The negatives include several positions but in fact the only serious slip-up among them is the performance against bright light.

solid and huge casing,, high image quality in the frame centre, no matter what focal lenght you employ,, good image quality on the edge of the APS-C/DX sensor,, decent image quality on the edge of full frame,, slight longitudinal chromatic aberration,, low lateral chromatic aberration at 200 mm,,...

a bit too high spherical aberration,, disastrous performance against bright light,, autofocus slower than in rival lenses,, no autofocus limiter,, modest accessory kit, worse than that of the rivals.
I have just received the lens and run it through some tests in varying light conditions with various apertures and shutter speeds, and I am very impressed. The focusing is quick and accurate, and the image quality is excellent with good color rendition. I am using it on a Nikon D7100.
This lens is a killer lens, it's as sharp as all pro Nikon lenses if not sharper! It's a true quality lens, the image stabilization is great for indoors and low light conditions. Of your shooting in great daylight just turn the image stabilization off.
To start the build quality is great. Strong and solid. For the range that it offers the size is good. Not compact but just right. Image quality is great. The VR features allow for handheld at 1/15 sec. This continues to surprise me at how well it works.
Tried it on my D810. Liked: Image quality, build, close focusing, size and feel, focus speed, and price. I was liking it very much until shooting with the built-in flash. It would focus lock and fire once (sometimes several times) and then then the camera would not fire until the flash was closed.
Great FX-DX All-Around Portrait-Nature-Wildlife TeleZoom. Works well on my D90, D7100 & D610. Have a wide collection of prime and zoom NIKKOR lenses going back to '79 when I started with Nikon FM 35mm. This is my Sharpest Zoom in this range.
Really solid build, lightning quick autofocusing on my D610 - I actually thought it wasn't working before I realised if just focuses very quickly without fuss and without noise. If you listen carefully you can hear the little motors whirring away inside.
