Tokina has recently shown remarkable success in controlling distortion at ultrawide focal lengths, while keeping prices low. This new 12–28mm f/4 AT-X Pro DX wide-angle zoom for Canon and Nikon APS-C bodies ($599, street) continues that fine trend.

On a Canon EF-S DSLR it operates with an effective focal length of 19-45mm, and on a DX format Nikon it’s slightly wider at 18-42mm as a result of the different crop factors. It offers a constant maximum aperture of f/4 and 9 aperture blades help create smooth bokeh in out-of-focus areas.

This 12-28mm from Tokina more than meets expectations and is worthy of the reputation set by their other ultrawide lenses for crop sensor cameras. Sharpness is excellent throughout the zoom range, build quality is very good and if focuses quickly and quietly.

The Tokina AT-X PRO DX 12-28 mm f/4 is a lens which performance is uneven. On the one hand it can provide very good image quality in the frame centre, on the other hand its work against bright light is weak.

I am very happy with this wide-angle zoom. It fills adequately the range left by 18-55, 18-105 or 18-200 mm. Despite the deficiencies already mentioned in previous reviews, which can be treated by software or by altered posture, it fully serves those who need a higher angle, fulfilling this...

Sharp pictures worked good on Nikon D7000 camera and Nikon D600 camera

Nice lens. Focal length is more useful, and lighter, for travel/walk around than my old 12-24 Tokina Mark I. Lens motor means its usable on cameras without screwdriver motor.
