The Tamron SP AF 180mm f/3.5 Di LD (IF) Macro is a well-designed lens that's impresses on both APS-C and full-frame bodies

I hope to find time to complete a Tamron 180mm f/3.5 Di Macro Lens review at some point in the future. For now, please enjoy the standardized test results available for this lens. Here is an aperture comparison:

In my opinion, there is no doubt the Tamron SP AF 180mm f/3.5 Di LD [IF] Macro 1:1 is a superb lens, with many fine features. It is capable of producing excellent pictures in both the close-up and telephoto ranges. . The build quality is excellent, as is the detachable tripod collar.

This lens is ergonomically well designed and handled nicely. Despite it’s capabilities, it did not weigh heavily on a neckstrap and felt comfortable and intuitive to use. Usable on full frame sensors and 35mm film as well as cropped sensors, we did wonder whether the resolving power would be able to...

Handles well and feels right., Good contrast, Good control of distortion and aberrations

Pure resolving power is disappointing, Price a little steep for performance

At £700, half the price of manufacturers own, can the Tamron SP AF 180mm f/3.5 Di LD (IF) Macro perform as well as the higher priced models?

Resolution when stopped down to F/5.6 or smaller, Fantastic control of Colour Aberrations, FEC is a nice touch, Good build quality, Good value for money

  • -

Resolution at f/3.5, Slow auto focus, No focus limiter switch

The Tamron AF 180mm f/3.5 SP Di LD [IF] macro offers a near-flawless performance. Optically it doesn't leave anything to be desired - the resolution is very good to excellent from f/3.5 all the way down to f/16 and vignetting, CAs and distortions are non-issues in field conditions.

I looked at the Canon and Sigma 180 macro lenses before buying this one. I tried the Sigma at a meeting and found it's autofocus slower than the Tamron. The extra cost for the 2.8 Sigma did not seem worth it, and it seems my images with the Tamron are as good as the Canon lens so I decided to go...

I bought it to use with my Nikon D810. It is not compatible. Unfortunately, it took me awhile to get to use it and it was too late to return. I will see if I can sell it at my camera stop. A disappointment since it is a nice macro lens if you have compatible camera.

One of the smartest things I have ever done. Being a serious macro insect photographer this lens has been far more than I dreamed.

I loved the lens. Steady build and nice close up. It was little too much for me, so I stayed with 90mm version. But again this one is really nice.

Sharper than AF Nikon Micro-Nikkor 200mm, and no front/back focusing issues like Sigma lenses often have. I have used this with Nikon D810 and can easily use even the 3x cropped images!

A very good lens, it very sharp it does take a few moment to get a handle on it performance. I go this lens two day ago. Like all my lens, i do a lot to reviews and watch tube videos on how good it is, for the price was a great deal, I was able to try the canon 180mm macro, however the tamron beats...

A nice lens for those who need more reach. But you will also need a LOT MORE LIGHT for the best photos.

I purchased this to shoot high end engagement rings...My Nikon 60mm macro wasn't quite getting the details I needed. I looked at the Nikon 200mm but at $1700 that just wasn't happening. Overall, I am very impressed with this lens. The clarity and image quality is impressive..
