First things first; the AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC LD Aspherical (IF) MACRO undoubtedly represents an impressive feat of optical engineering, and Tamron has to be applauded for producing a superzoom that has significantly longer telephoto reach than its direct competitors without further...

  • +

Remarkable 15x focal length range, Impressive image quality in the normal to short telephoto range, Excellent resistance to flare, Effective vibration correction system, at least 3 stops benefit, Reasonably compact despite the long telephoto range

  • -

Slow and occasionally indecisive autofocus, Geometric distortion across much of the zoom range, Significant chromatic aberration at wideangle and telephoto (especially 270mm), Macro performance rather compromised (very soft at F6.3, focus shifts on stopping down), Uneven zoom action, zoom creep when...

Tamron's Di II type lenses are designed for APS-C sized digital cameras so translating the 18mm-270 mm (15X zoom) into a more understandable measurement it zooms from 28mm to an amazing 419mm equivalent in 35mm film camera terms.

Just like the rest of its (extreme zoom range) lens species the Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di LD Aspherical [IF] VC macro (sorry, I had to repeat that again ...) tries to provide it all, but the continuously higher degree of generalization rather than specialization has a price - image quality.

Purchased this lens about a month ago for a trip to NY & Boston and didn't want to take 2-3 other lenses (no way I wanted to carry that much around all day everyday for 7 days). So far, still getting used to this lens - there is a moment/minisecond before the shutter can be pressed with manual or...

I love this little lens and it gave me a little more reach than my 55-200mm lens. I do wish that I would have gotten a little more range than the 270mm but for the product there is no complaints from me.

This is a discontinued item, replaced by the Piezo Drive version. Might be better to get the newer one, but you might find this at such a discount that it's worth it to get the older version.

When you weigh its quality and versatility against its cost, it's probably the best single lens the average hobbyist could get. When I bought mine, there was a giant mail-in rebate for it.

Cons have been mentioned by others: 1) It's sticky along the middle of the zoom range; 2) it's not fast; 3) it doesn't focus well at times; and 4) the lens creeps down sometimes when pointed down. Given the versatility and price, though, I tend to discount these.

Great product but beware item is grey market - good value for the money but seller (Clickonadeal = Tristate Camera) should have disclosed this is NOT covered by the manufacturer warranty nor gives right to manufacturer discount coupon. Per law, seller should have disclosed this.

I bought this lens to use on a recent upgrade to a T2i body. It is used primarily as a walkabout, all purpose lens that eliminates the need to change lenses. I had borrowed my brother-in-law's lens this summer, and was quite satisfied with the results obtained on a 'try it', before you 'buy it',...

Quite versitile, with a very wide focal range. On an APS-c 1.6 crop camera, this 18-270mm lens has a range of 28mm to 432mm !, A built in lock button to prevent 'barrel creep' when the lens is transported on the camera, or when the camera is slung over the shoulder.

  • -

Slightly larger and heavier, than most regular 'kit' lenses, this lens will add additional bulk to your DSLR camera., AF will do a lot of hunting and searching in low light conditions, so you may have to switch to manual focus to achieve satisfactory results.

This lens covers the standard lenses provided by Nikon, and has great capability to where I can use the Tamron for duty where either of the single lenses worked. I really like the available DoF on this lens, the quality of the image is actually very good, I am very pleased with this purchase.
