The Tamron 70-300mm F4.5-6.3 Di III RXD is a telephoto lens that costs and weighs less than competitors, with serviceable image quality for a modern optic.

  • +

Light and compact, Affordable, Moisture-resistant sealing, Quality construction

  • -

Relies on in-body stabilization, Disappointing off-center resolution, Close-up focus isn't that close, Narrow aperture limits low-light use

This should be your top choice for affordable, portable telephoto zooms on a full-frame Sony camera. The balance of performance, durability, and features makes it ideal for a wide range of photography subjects.

  • +

Impressive image quality, Compact & lightweight design, Good build quality balances durability & portability, Weather-sealing (In such an affordable package!), Unprecedented value

  • -

Missing Optical Stabilization (All current FF bodies have IBIS), Vignetting correction doesn't always work perfectly, Minimal physical features

The Tamron 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD is an excellent all-round telephoto zoom that is quite a bargain at $549. Perfect second lens for who people who bought their Sony Alpha with a kit zoom, this useful telephoto is ideal for sporting events, birding, wildlife and travel, and excellent for...

A travel-friendly lens that also makes a good lightweight walkabout zoom, the Tamron 70-300mm is remarkably lightweight as well as being very simple to use. It pairs well with all but the earliest full-frame Sony E-mount full-frame cameras, as later models feature IBIS.

  • +

Compact, lightweight build, Relatively inexpensive to buy, Decent weather-sealed construction

  • -

No optical stabilization, Lacklustre edge-sharpness, Feels quite basic and plasticky

Due to their usefulness, a telephoto zoom lens is often the second lens added to a kit. The 70-300mm range made available in this lens has long been featured in manufacturer's lineups and is highly valued by those owning such a lens.

The new Tamron 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD lens is a pure delight to use. It does its job admirably, without any glitches or vices getting in the way of enjoying our photography. The optical performance is not perfect, although at the centre of the field it is excellent throughout.

  • +

Excellent central sharpness, Nice bokeh, Excellent CA control centrally, Fast, accurate and silent AF, 5 Year Warranty, Modest vignetting, Light and compact, Moisture resistance, Superb flare control, Superb handling

I had been waiting to get a zoom for my sony e mount camera and when I saw that Tamron had a 70-300mm coming out, I knew I needed to wait! And I am so glad I did! I love it so much. I shoot primarily canoe races and this lens is what I had been missing!
