There have been some impressive lenses for the Sony Alpha 7 cameras, and the emphasis seems to be on quality rather than affordability. It is vital that the lenses match the capabilities of the 36.4-million-pixel Alpha 7R, and the new 90mm f/2.8 macro lens certainly does this – and more.

We would be very hard pressed to find a poor macro lens as the general standard is very high across all marques. The 100mm macro is a particularly popular choice, doubling up as a useful portrait lens as well as other short telephoto applications.

The 90-105mm focal length is a sweet spot for macro photographers. It offers a good working distance between the subject and the end of the lens, and has a narrow enough field of view so that backgrounds can be fairly concentrated and blown nicely out of focus.

This fine 90mm macro with an f/2.8 aperture is turning out to be a wonderful portrait lens. My first day out with it, I tested its focusing shooting random people in the park, and it's a winner -- Fast & Sharp. FWIW, I also happen to really like Sony's bokeh. I just find it very natural.

Pleased with the macro image quality, once the focus is established. In low light the MF collar is useful. Yet to be 100% proficient with the lens but will be an ideal replacement for a Zeiss Makro-Planar 60mm f2.8 used with a E-mount to C/Y adaptor.

I use this lens on an A7R II as a two-way lens for macro/still life and portrait photography. It produces images of stunning image quality. I unhesitatingly recommend this lens. however, there are two issues to consider if you're thinking of buying it. 1) This lens is big and heavy.

A good sharp macro lens with useful features, MF and focus freeze, OSS is a real help when slow shutter speeds are needed. A bit pricey, but overall it`s worth it.

Well constructed lens that produces sharp images both close-up and at distances. Made for macro work, but works well for portrait and product photography too! When the range limiter is set properly the lens will quickly focus and track moving subjects like birds.
