The Sony Zeiss Distagon T* FE 35mm F1.4 ZA is a sharp, no-compromise lens, but you'll pay for its quality.

  • +

Sharp even at f/1.4 No distortion. Physical aperture ring. Weather and dust-resistant design.

  • -

    Big. Expensive. Lacks image stabilization.

It seems as if the Zeiss-Sony relationship has cooled off a little lately- probably because both want to harvest the premium segment. Zeiss appears to gravitate towards their own Zeiss Batis lens lineup now whereas Sony is focusing on Sony G and GM lenses.

The new Sony FE 35mm ƒ/1.4 Zeiss lens is another fantastic prime lens for the Sony A7-series cameras, and it gives shooters an excellent, general-purpose wide-angle focal length perspective that's great for travel and street photography as well as portraits.

A responsive aperture ring offers positive action that will satisfy professional photographers and moviemakers alike. The aperture ring click stops can be switched on or off as required. “Off” is the preferred setting for moviemaking since it results in the least aperture operation noise.

The Distagon T* FE 35mm f/1.4 is a strong performer and well worth considering by owners of Sony’s FE mount cameras who want a fast prime lens with a moderately wide angle of view. This lens is able to capitalise on the superior high ISO performance of Sony’s recent ‘full frame’ cameras, making it a...

Quite simply, the Sony Distagon T* FE 35mm F1.4 ZA is a superb prime lens. You’d expect sharpness to be high across the frame from such a premium optic, and it doesn’t disappoint. Even with the Alpha 7 Mark II test camera shooting at ISO1600, detail is exceptionally sharp.

I was shooting with Canon for a decade before switching to Sony and never got to experience the joy of having a flagship 35mm lens in my arsenal during the time. This lens has simply been lens GOALS. I now own a Sony Alpha a9 and the Sony Alpha a7R III as my duo.

This lens takes amazing images, the rendering is phenomenal. Was worried about the decentering issue, but it seems I have a good copy. It's pretty even across the frame, solid sharpness at f/1.4. Not razor sharp, but definitely sharp enough, but it's the overall image rendering that's important.

At first i was super concerned, because i was reading all these horror stories online about poor QC with these lenses, And when i finally got the lens i couldn't stop taking pictures of walls and textures and looking for issues while pixel peeping.

Im just an enthusiast who appreciates quality equipment. I recently added a Sony 35mm f1.4 lens for my Sony a6500 and I love it! Its proving to be an excellent match for that camera in every respect. However you do need a camera with in-camera stabilization because this lens doesnt have it.

I use this lens on my Sony a6500 and its totally living up to my expectations. Images are very sharp, the auto focus works great, and the 1.4 aperture is really helpful when youre shooting in lower light situations. This is a high quality lens and Im extremely pleased with the purchase.
