The RX1 is the first time Sony has combined a compact camera system with a fixed lens system that includes a full-frame sensor that’s nearly the size of classic 35mm film material (35.8x23.9mm).
The more we mull it over, “suiting your vision” is an apt description for the RX1. This Cyber-shot is a wonderful photography tool and if you can imagine the shot, the camera will deliver it – within reason, of course.

Full-frame, 24.3-megapixel sensor, Wonderful stills, superior videos, Terrific f/2.0 35mm lens, Excellent 3-inch 1,229K LCD
-
-
Battery life somewhat limited; Sony should supply an in-wall charger, LCD should tilt and be touch-capable, Poor placement of red-dot movie button
With a terrific lens and a great full-frame sensor, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1 delivers the best photos we've seen from a fixed-lens camera. But that doesn't come cheap.

Great photo and good video quality in a camera with a nicely functional and fluid shooting design are the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1 's highlights.
-
-
It lacks a viewfinder, autofocus is sluggish, and there's no focus peaking in video mode.
Near-breathless anticipation is pretty much how you’d describe the mood when Sony announced plans for what, on paper, looked to be the most advanced compact camera ever . So magnificently crafted is the RX1, a pro-level shooter with a full-frame sensor and a fixed lens wrapped in a pocket-size body,...

Sharp, beautiful still images. Gorgeous bokeh. Solid build. External f-stop ring on lens. Crisp and bright LCD. Very low noise at high ISOs. Shoots RAW, RAW + JPEG and JPEG.
-
-
Slowish focus performance, especially in low light. Detachable electronic viewfinder is mostly unnecessary. Disappointing video performance. A fixed lens is “a fixed” lens and offers few options. Average output from pop-up flash.
The Sony RX1 has a full frame sensor and some amazing image quality. But will that be enough to justify the $2800 price tag?
-
+
excellent image quality and lens sharpness, solid feature set, manual aperture ring
-
-
LCD difficult to use in bright light, movie record button awkwardly placed, autofocus somewhat sluggish in low light, relatively short battery life, expensive, fussy manual focus
The RX1 is a small camera capable of astonishing image quality. Its handling marries classic camera ergonomics with a couple of cyber-shot quirks but it's still a lovely camera to shoot with. If a fixed 35mm lens will fulfill any of your shooting requirements, there's nothing to touch the RX1.

Excellent image quality in both JPEG and Raw, Full frame in a compact, well-built body, Dedicated aperture and exposure compensation controls, Exceptional build-quality - solid feeling without being too heavy, Superb high ISO output in both JPEG and Raw images, Essentially silent operation, Wide...

Autofocus speed not fast enough for moving subjects, Autofocus struggles in low light, Significant vignetting (as with similar lenses), corrections 'baked into' Raw files, Multiple button presses required to move AF point, No built-in viewfinder (and accessory options rather expensive), No focus...
Sony Cyber-shot RX1R Review - The new Sony RX1R promises uncompromised image quality with the removal of its optical low-pass filter
With a full-frame sensor placed inside a compact body -- married with a fast, sharp 35mm Carl Zeiss lens -- the Sony RX1 achieves what was once almost unthinkable -- an almost-pocketable camera that delivers stellar hi-res images.

Full-frame, 24-megapixel sensor in a compact body; Carl Zeiss Sonnar 35mm f/2 T* lens; Blazing fast autofocus; Impressive image quality that rivals (and sometimes surpasses) full-frame DSLRs; Customizable function buttons make it a breeze to use.
-
-
Fixed-length lens limits shooting flexibility; Some exposure bias, color shift, moire and video AF issues; Viewfinders (optical or electronic) only available as optional accessories; Extremely expensive for a compact camera.
The RX1 isn’t perfect: it’s exorbitantly expensive for most people; it’s limited to one, fixed lens; it requires a knowledge and understanding of basic photographic principles to really get the most out of it; its battery life sucks; and its autofocus system falls short.

Amazing image quality, Compact, sturdy build quality, Lots of manual contols

-
Expensive with expensive accessories, Poor battery life, Inconsistent, slow autofocus, No ability to zoom or change lenses
When reviewing this camera's direct predecessor, the RX100, I remarked that Sony's claim it was "The best pocket camera ever...
I've used the Sony's RX1 & RX1r on several occasions. To date, even with the cons above this is my favorite camera. In the 1980's, I learned photography on a Canon F-Series film camera. When the digital era erupted I purchased a Canon P&S but never a DSLR.

Gorgeous Lens, Full Frame Sensor, Massive Amounts of Detail, Dead-on Auto White Balance, Almost Point & Shoot Compact, Best FF Camera & 35mm Lens Combo On Market

Exposure Comp Dial Bumps Easily, Lacks Electronic Viewfinder, Price Gouging Accessories, Short Battery Life, Macro Lens Setting Can Be Forgotten, Fair Video Quality, Fixed 35mm Focal Length, Slow Focus in Dark
The level of image quality produced by this camera is no less than extraordinary. The RX1 produces 24 megapixel images that contain tons of detail as well as realistic color and tonality. The full frame CMOS sensor also delivers a great deal of dynamic range.
The RX1 is an expensive niche camera. After fours years I finally snagged a used one for $1000! Geez, really, a fixed FL lens, no touch screen, no wifi, I mean how so last century - so was I crazy to plunk down all that money on a four year old camera?
So I call my RX-1 "The Terminator" Yes it the Arnold Schwarzenegger of the point and shoot world. It leaves the other P&S cameras laying in a waste land. Plus this is the most fun I have had with a camera in a long time.

+
Small size, amazing image quality, Carl Zeiss lens, silent shutter, ease of use, just plain fun
-
-
slow focus in low light, Leica pricing on accessories, high price, manual focus with the LCD, battery life.
Near perfect travel camera for the enthusiast who puts picture quality first. Yes there are; smaller, lighter, and much cheaper options, but not carrying this quality of glass and a full frame sensor.
