The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II's combination of looks, speed, flexibility, and photo quality makes it a great choice for enthusiasts who can afford the price tag.

  • +

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II delivers excellent photos, speedy performance, and a broad feature set in an attractive, compact package.

  • -

The camera tends to clip bright highlights more than we typically see, and the slippery body lacks a grip. Plus, the lack of a manually triggered macro mode might put off some fans of close-up photography.

Hallelujahs and cheers greeted the original RX100, with one critic going so far as to claim it was the best compact ever. (The RX100, by the way, is still available, now for $150 less.) The RX100 II keeps the momentum going, and offers the best image quality you can get out of a compact.

  • +

Beautiful photos and movies, f/1.8 3.6x zoom, Tilting 3-inch LCD screen, Wi-Fi with NFC

  • -

100mm on tele-end a bit limited, Full aperture range only at wide-angle, Slow shutter speed, Poorly placed red-dot video button

We're applauding Sony for this one — while we expected more traditional camera companies to knock it out of the park, Sony stepped up into a flooded market and made an impact. The RX 100 II is well thought out, well executed, and works as expected.

  • +

Small size, great image quality, good video options.

The RX100 II performs much the same as its RX100 predecessor, turning out some of the best image quality we've seen from a compact camera. With the addition of Wi-Fi connectivity and a BSI sensor, it's at the top of its class in terms of performance and features.

No doubt, Sony has improved what appeared to be difficult to beat. The addition of the full support of the Wi-Fi connectivity and NFC, a tilting screen, a backlit APS-C sensor. A hot shoe is compatible with a range of accessories, along with other small refinements, make this small but powerful...

Materials and finishes of the highest quality, Excellent image quality, Fast AF single, Excellent implementation of Wi-Fi, Sensor backlit, Tilting screen.

Sony has once again raised the bar for advanced compact cameras with the RX100 II. Building on the wildly popular RX100, the RX100 II adds a tilting rear LCD screen, flash/accessory hot shoe, built-in Wi-Fi, and a backside-illuminated (BSI) sensor for improved low-light and high-ISO performance.

  • +

New, 20.2MP, 1-inch type, backside illuminated (BSI) image sensor produces superb image quality, with particular improvements in low light and high ISO; 3-inch tilting rear LCD screen handy for composing shots from difficult angles; Fast all-around performer with quick autofocus and virtually no...

  • -

Bigger and heavier than previous model; More expensive than previous model; Reduced burst performance when shooting RAW files; Somewhat confusing menu structure and control layout; Wi-Fi features can be difficult to set up.

Following on the heels of the original Sony RX100, the updated Mark II version of the compact camera seems to have latched on to a successful format.

The RX100 II improves on what many considered to be almost the perfect compact camera. The only real issue is the premium price tag, but if you’re willing to fork out then you’ll own one of the best compacts money can buy.

  • +

New tilting screen is useful, Impressive build quality, Hot shoe accessory support, Large, 1-inch sensor

I've had the Mk2 for 1-2 months now & the photos seem to be of high quality but I have had problems with the AVCHD videos - there is a constant & irritating background noise on the audio, much like a distant helicopter or an old-fashioned film projector, which I have been told by Sony support to be...

I've had the Sony RX100 since it first came out. Took it everywhere and everyone loved my pictures. It finally broke and I used one of my other cameras but the quality is just not the same. Broke down and bought the RX100 II as my birthday present to myself! Best present ever!

I shoot a Canon D70; but, its often too much to carry around - the SonyRX 100 M2 is the best point & shoot alternative. Takes great photos in every setting.

Would be nice to have a viewfinder; but, not worth the extra $$ imo.The zoom is a bit slow to focus.

This is a great little camera, the only con is that the auto focus is a bit on the slow side in low light conditions (especially when using the flash). Pictures are amazing though, even in lower light. Video is great too. Best of all, this is a pocketable camera, which was important to me.

This is a super substitute for my larger cameras. Perfect for travel... really does fit in larger pockets. No need to lug lenses, etc. I enjoy the pics taken with RX100 MII.

There is no better pocket camera available at any price. Larger cameras like the Leica X2 and Sony NEX7 produce better image quality, but not much. Worth the money.

  • +

Outstanding image quality, metal build, Carl Zeiss lens

  • -

Expensive, optional EVF very expensive, lens slow at long end.

This is a good choice for non-professionals who want their photos to be a cut above the usual. After years of using simple point-and-shoot models or my iphone, I wanted something with manual features like my old 35mm film camera.

This camera is worth considering for its image quality, having features like RAW Support, but in the price range it struggles against other competitors with a lack of an articulated screen, WiFi and NFC, which make things like vlogging way easier.
