With its 20.1MP APS-C sensor and $$450 kit price, the Sony Alpha A5000 is a good option for those looking for a budget mirrorless camera. This would be an excellent move for those moving up from a point-and-shoot or smartphone, but aren’t looking for anything too complicated.

Very high-quality stills, Lightweight, good price, Selfie-shifting LCD screen
-
-
Slow burst speeds, Relatively low-quality LCD, no touch, 1080/60i video, not 60p
The Alpha A5000 is an entry-level mirrorless camera that's aimed at anyone upgrading from a point-and-shoot camera or a smartphone. It goes head-to head with entry-level DSLRs, sporting a similarly-sized sensor and the chance to swap lenses, but unlike most DSLRs at this price point, adds an...

No built-in viewfinder or optional accessory., No touch-screen., No hotshoe / accessory port., Very limited customisation options.
Sony's A5000 aims to convince entry-level users to board the mirrorless train.
The Sony A5000 is a very good everyday compact system camera that offers a lot for its entry-level price. It’s just a shame Sony has chosen to stick with a slightly underwhelming screen.

Great value for money, Improved Bionz-X processor, Wi-Fi/ NFC, Good metering and white balance

Poor continuous AF, Disappointing LCD
For an entry-level interchangeable-lens camera, the α5000 has a lot of advantages; it's small and light, takes nice-looking photos and movies and comes with a reasonably competent lens.
The Sony A5000 doesn't bear the NEX brand, but we're relieved to see that Sony hasn't abandoned the technology that we've admired so much over the last four years. Sony is one of the few camera manufacturers to use an APS-C sensor in its compact system cameras (CSCs) – most other CSCs' sensors are...
An excellent buy for those looking for their first compact system camera. Image quality is good, handling is great and there's a good solid system for E Mount cameras.
The new Sony A5000 is a rather modest refresh of last year's NEX-3N cameras, ditching the NEX branding, upgrading the image sensor and processor, and adding wi-fi and NFC connectivity, a better handgrip and the more intuitive Alpha menu system.
The Sony Alpha A5000 is one of the more compact mirrorless cameras available with built in flash, particularly considering it has an APS-C CMOS sensor. For a smaller mirrorless camera you could have a look at the smaller sensor Nikon 1 series, or the Panasonic Lumix GM1 with Micro Four Thirds...

Have to pay for additional features as "apps" that are free with other cameras: Time-lapse, Multiple-exposure, Multi Frame NR etc, Strong noise reduction
As Sony looks to consolidate its cameras under the Alpha branding, the Sony Alpha 5000 arrives to replace the NEX-3N, adding Wi-Fi functionality, an improved image processor, and benefiting from its lightweight construction and portable size.
i'm an amateur photographer i got this camera because of how simple it looked to use. it's super lightweight and the quality is excellent. the photos upload to your smartphone fast and easy and keeps the quality. the flip-up LCD screen is my favorite feature and the battery last very long.
Amazing camera in all aspects, and great value. This is a product I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a transition form a point and shoot to a professional camera. My only concern is the lens cap should come with a string to attach to the camera so its not easily lost.

Limited Zoom
The camera is very glitchy. I used it for a work project and within two hours the lens froze and it was unusable. I will be returning it. Very disappointed.
nice enough camera for beginner but beware of the back screen it scratches unbelievably easily only kept it for a month used about five times took care of it as I do with all my cameras only to see the back screen getting really scatched up with very little use not impressed at all sold it at a...
I was pleasantly surprised how good the video quality was, and the pictures are also great
Great, small camera for travel.
Quality is very good, photos are automaticaly done like a pro
Great little compact with excellent picture quality. Key feature I bought this for was the interchangeable lenses (You don't often get this at this price). Menu sytem takes some getting used to on any Sony.
