Sony's A1E series of OLED TVs shows off the technology's capability for perfect blacks and wide colors, with the power and features of Android TV under the hood.

Perfect black levels. Wide color range. Striking design. Android TV platform is loaded with features, including Google Cast.

Extremely expensive. Colors aren't ideal out of the box.
Seriously, folks, the Sony A1E OLED is just out-of-this-world fantastic. The question isn’t whether you will love having the Sony A1E OLED TV in your home. The question is whether can you stomach paying for the little extras it offers over competing LG sets.

Gorgeous design, Perfect picture quality, Stunning HDR performance, Impressive sound system, Google Assistant, Alexa Voice control

Expensive, Android TV can be a drag
With an amazing picture that matches but doesn't exceed LG's 2017 OLED TVs, the Sony XBR-A1E isn't worth the premium for most high-end shoppers.
-
+
With the exception of other 2017 OLED TVs, the Sony XBR-A1E outperforms every other TV we've tested. It delivers perfect black levels, wide viewing angles, accurate color and a great bright-room picture. Its unique stand-less design is almost all picture when seen from the front.

It has the same image quality as less expensive LG OLED TVs.
Splurge on the Sony XBR-65A1E if you want a truly superior OLED TV with impressive sound and robust Android TV features. You can get the LG E7 for about $1,000 less, but Sony's set provides slightly better color and more brightness.

Excellent OLED picture, Impressive built-in sound, Well-rounded smart-TV features, Great viewing angles

Odd leaning tabletop stand, Abysmal remote control
Sony’s first ever OLED 4K TV uses one of LG’s own OLED display panels but with processing and other key technologies from Sony’s best for 4K TVs. In other words, you’re getting the same OLED performance that you would with an LG television but in a Sony build if that’s the brand you’ve always...
Coming from several Panasonic plasmas (last being the ST60), no LCD/LED TV was going to be satisfactory, including the Sony Z9D. Having carefully considered the more affordable LG B6/E6 OLED, I ruled it out due to the poor handling of near-black tones; that unit essentially lost fine detail and made...
Good picture? Yes... but it could be brighter. Considering that OLED's are supposed to dim over time, this comes set to maximum brightness out of the box and it already needs to be a bit brighter.
Picture quality looks good with dark blacks. It wants to be your media star unless you already have one. Recent software update is causing a loud audio tone/buzz on some frozen or information HDMI video from my TiVo. Nice to have multiple HDMI inputs for all the sources.
Image is amazing and user interface is fast and responsive. It's a Sony.
This TV is as good as all the reviews have indicated. It does a great job of up scaling most of the media I have access to. Brilliant color, great contrast and very good blacks and all shades of grey.
